( chapter two : adventures in babysitting )
there were only three things in this world that grayson hemmings was absolutely sure of. the first was that pineapple pizza was not only his favourite food, but had to be everyone's favourite food. it was just common sense.
the second thing the little boy was sure of was that jerry was the smartest mouse in existence, and if his teacher, miss claire, ever asked him who he wanted to be when he grew up he'd say jerry the mouse. and then maybe his dad.
and the third was the fact that moana was the best movie ever made. period. but what made it so much better was watching it on the sofa with his favourite person, eating the giant sundaes they'd made themselves. it had been naya's idea, sending nimra out to get a bunch of different ice cream flavours so that their evening would be a fun filled sundae creating experience.
needless to say, it ended in a huge mess.
naya didn't mind though. looking after her best friends' son was one of the highlights of her week, regardless of how sad it sounded that the nineteen year old had nothing better to do on a friday night than clean a worktop that was stained with what she hoped was whipped cream.
she heard the end credits of the movie playing in the other room, alessia cara's voice filtering through to the kitchen. naya waited for grayson's inevitable whines for her to 'put anna and elsa on next', but she was met with silence from the little boy.
peering into the living room, she saw his curled up sleeping form on the sofa, ice cream painted around his mouth and on his chin. his glass had been dropped on the floor, a trail of dessert on the carpet. naya couldn't even be mad though, the adorable smile on grayson's face making her roll her eyes and go to the bathroom to get some face wipes.
after cleaning his face and putting the snoring boy into bed, naya sighed at the mess on the beige rug that nimra would probably definitely yell at her for. she got to work scrubbing at the carpet, humming a song from the disney soundtrack that was now stuck in her head.
just as the blue haired girl finished cleaning the floor, the front door burst open and naya groaned at the unmistakable sounds of her roommates arguing.
"you promised me a romantic night out."
"since when was . . . mcdonald's n-not a romantic night out?"
"since my asshole boyfriend showed up tipsy and half an hour late."
even naya winced at that, knowing luke had screwed up badly this time. she rushed to the doorway, holding her finger in front of her mouth, signalling the pair to be quiet.
"gray's sleeping," she told them in a whisper.
nimra nodded, a grateful smile on her face. "thanks for tonight naya, it was—well," she glanced at luke's stumbling figure, "it would've been great."
