( chapter fifteen : let's be a cliché )

calum's house wasn't anything like naya had expected.

firstly, it was a house.

not an apartment, but a small, simple, two-bedroom in a suburban neighbourhood. there was a pebbled path twisting through the grass in the garden, reminding naya of a fairytale setting. the path led to the front door, a dark blue with two rectangular panes of glass that stood vertically.

naya squinted through the glass while calum pulled a set of keys from his back pocket and unlocked the door. she grinned at the flower basket hanging from the porch as she followed the racer into his house.

"this is pretty," naya stood in the hall, spinning on her toes as she stared up at the lights on the ceiling. they hung in circular balls, shining intensely throughout the hallway.

calum hooked his jacket up, "thanks."

feeling out of place, naya shoved her hands in her pockets and obeyed when calum gestured for her to follow him. they entered a living room, a large brown couch and a pink velvet blanket brought a smile to naya's face.

"guess someone else loves pink," she giggled, throwing herself on the couch.

chuckling, calum watched the girl, "oh please, make yourself at home," he said sarcastically when she snuggled into the couch, letting out a sigh.

"i think i'm in heaven," she mumbled into the dark material.

chuckling at her, calum asked, "d'you want some clothes to change into?" before quickly adding, "y'know, if you're not comfortable in . . ." he gestured to her denim jacket and pink skirt.

not lifting her face from the pillow, naya let out a noise that sounded like a groan.

"was that a yes?" calum was beginning to get a little worried that the girl would never move. her limbs flailed in all directions and he could easily see how sleepy the little girl was. he didn't want her to sleep on the couch when he had a perfectly good guest bedroom upstairs.

"mm hmm."

"c'mon, get up baby, let's get you to bed," calum instructed.

"no!" naya groaned, holding onto the couch tightly while calum tried to lift her up. "leave me be!"

calum sighed, his eyes flicking around the room.

"what if i put a movie on? we can try not scaring calum and sit up properly, huh?" he pulled her arms up and the girl gave in, narrowing her eyes at him.

"what're we watching?"

calum shrugged, before bending down and picking her up.

naya screeched in protest, clinging to calum as his hands slipped under arms, lifting her off the couch and lowering until he could support her properly.
