The Guardians P.O.V
North paced the room nervously. He couldn't help but feel responsible for this whole thing. Maybe if they'd looked for Jack longer... Maybe if he hadn't been so focused on Christmas...
Tooth watched North from her place on the cot. "North, You know it's not your fault, right? There's nothing any of us could've done."
North looked at her with agony in his eyes. "If we'd just kept a closer eye on him. If we hadn't let him go out on his own." Then in a softer voice, thick with emotion he whispered, "The last thing I said to him was that he'd never be a guardian."
Bunny looked up from the window knowingly. He'd struggled with the same thing months ago. He had always thought that the spirit had gone somewhere to get away from them. Knowing that Jack had most likely been trapped the whole time and he hadn't even gone to look for him once was so much harder to swallow.
Sandy put a small, golden hand on Bunny's shoulder. He had been searching for Jack ever since he found he had disappeared. He knew the boy would never just leave like that, even if they had said terrible things.
North choked back a sob and quickly left the room. Tooth looked at Bunny and Sandy sadly and rushed after him.
Bunny coughed and shoved the aching feeling down, focusing on finding Jack. He looked at Sandy, "I think he went to Burgess. That's the only place he's ever really loved."
Symbols flashed over top of Sandy's head and a confused expression covered his face.
"If North is right and there's still some part of our boy in there, that's the only place he'd go. If he's not there, we can assume there's nothing left."
Sandy widened his eyes and gasped soundlessly. He didn't want to find out what Bunny would do if Jack wasn't there. Sandy thought of Jack as family. A nephew maybe. He couldn't stand to even imagine hurting him.
Bunny's nose twitched and his expression quickly turned angry, "I hope that bastard, Pitch is there too. Maybe we can finally get rid of him for good."
Sandy flashed a couple symbols above his head, trying to get Bunny to calm down but he wasn't paying attention.
"I'll go tell the others. Go get some sleep. We'll leave in the morning."
Bunny marched out of the room leaving Sandy shivering next to the open window with a sinking feeling gnawing at his gut.
