The Best Friend and the Husband

Chapter fourteen

When we got Home I put Asheel to bed, I laid with her for about twenty minutes. Then got up and went to my bedroom. I got into my pjs, put on the tv. But just as I was dosing off to sleep one of my work phones started ringing. It was the hospital calling....
"Hello doctor Robinson speaking"
"Hi this is Patti"
"Oh ok why are you calling? I don't come back until after the weekend"
"I know and I'm sorry but we have a patient who needs emergency surgery and he won't let anyone but you do it"
"Oh my ok you caught me at a bad time but I can be there in about twenty minutes, so start prepping him for surgery"

Well at least this will keep my mind off of my own problems. I guess I will have to take Ash with me.
I go and get some things together for her. Then I pack her to the car trying not to wake her.
Twenty minutes later
"Oh hi Dr. R! I thought you weren't coming in till Monday?"
"Oh yeah but I got an emergency call do you happen to know where Patti is"
"Oh yeah she at the north wing room 112"
"Thank you"
I knew I couldn't take Ash with me so I dropped her off at my office and asked a co-worker to keep an eye on her.
As I was getting ready to go in my phone was ringing. I asked my assistant to hold my phone.
"Hello"
"Maddie can we talk?"
"I can't talk right now"
"Come on please "
"No I'm going into surgery"
"Where's Asheell?"
"She's here with me in my office and no you can't come get her, bye"
I got off the phone. My intern gave me the concerned, confused, what's going on look. I just shook my head and rolled my eyes. I went in and did my job. When I got out it was 4 am. I was tired and I had to do some paper work before I went home. When I got into my office Asheel was asleep on the couch, I grabbed a blanket to cover her. It took me about an hour and a half to do my paper work. The sun was coming up and I watched. It was 6:30 when I woke up Asheel and we went home. I got into bed and fell right to sleep. It seemed like I just closed my eyes when Asheel came in and woke me up.
"Mom MOM mother"
"What?"
"I'm hungry"-Ash
"There's fruit in the fridge"
"I want pancakes"
"Wait what time is it?"
"12:30"
"Oh my god I have an appointment in half an hour"
"For what mommy?"
"Uh well you're going to be a big sister"
"I know already dads and aunt Sarah are having three babies"
"No well yeah but your mommy is having one too"
Asheel had a sad look on her face
"Ash don't be sad okay you're always going to be my baby girl and I'm going to love you both the same okay, but sometimes it might seem like I don't spend lots of time with you when the baby comes but that's because the baby needs lots of help and even though your dad is having three always know that we will always love you with our whole heart"
"Okay mommy but do I have to come with you?"
"How about I call your Nana and ask her to come over"
"Yay"
"When I get back I'll make you some chocolate chip pancakes"-Madison
"Alrighty"
When I told Asheel I was having a baby I thought she was going to have a tantrum but she took it very well and seems a bit excited to be a big sister. Maybe this is a sign that Russell might take the news just as well. Haha probably not.
