Fortunately, we managed to calm Peter down and decide against storming into the stranger's place. I understand why he was furious. What I did was dangerous. I could've been forced against my will or worst get killed if the stranger was a madman. Ty on the other hand, doesn't really know how to comprehend the event. He was torn between being delighted that I finally left the company and went out to party (not exactly) and being sad because I was humiliated and got drunk to the point where I didn't know I was brought home by a stranger. Peter's almost annoyed at his indecisiveness thankfully, he's used to it already.
I was again with them for the weekend so I was able to think beyond the outrageous events that has just passed. We even went as far as visiting several orphanages to find a child/children they can adopt, something they have decided while in the trip. I didn't want to impose but they teasingly said that I apparently should come with them since I'll be their children's babysitter and private tutor anyway now that I'm jobless. It sounded too far-fetched but really, it's not. I am after all, a kid lover.
It's a Tuesday and we decided to meet at a local cafe, where the price of the coffee is more reasonable than the one beside the company. Ty calls it a conference, Peter says it's a meeting, I call it an excuse. They wanted to help me formulate a plan on how re-start my life but I'm pretty sure they just want to be certain that I wouldn't do anything rash in my sad and lost state of mind. They're a bunch of worry wart but it's not as if I don't like it.
"Like I said, why don't you become freelance? Make some designs and let's post it in a website. We'll help you advertise." Ty wants me to become a freelance graphic artist. I do have some designs in mind but it'll be a risk if it's what I'm going to do full-time. I'm not young anymore and I don't think I'd be able to pay the bills through it.
Peter cluck his tongue and shook his head. He opens his tablet and shows a website of a company. "Farrow Advertising. How about trying to work for them? I heard they have an opening for experienced graphic artists or anyone who worked in the field."
I narrow my eyes on him. "Where exactly did you hear this from?"
He looks away sheepishly. "My cousin?"
"Maureen?"
He nods.
"No, not a chance. We both know how this is going to end up. You'll tell her I'm your friend and convince her to hire me. That's the last thing I want, Peter. Thank you but no thanks."
He frowns at me but agreed otherwise.
"It's you." I looked up from our table and was surprised to see who suddenly appeared beside me. "Did you get home safe?"
I open and close my mouth, not really knowing what to say. I look at Ty and Peter and surely, they're looking at him with murderous eyes. I guess they've easily figured out who he is. "H-how exactly, um. Yes?"
"I'm sorry about that morning. I shouldn't have brought you to my place without your knowledge. You were so drunk and standing aimlessly at the dance floor that you didn't answer me when I asked if you were alright then suddenly you blacked out. I was worried someone else would take advantage of you so I brought you to my place and asked the bartender where your things are."
Now the event was cleared up. I was drunk and this stranger is a good guy who decided to help me.
"That and I was actually eyeing you since I saw you at the club so I did my part and tried pursuing you."
He said what?
"You." Peter called out menacingly. "Who are you and what were your intentions?"
The stranger held up his hand in front of him and shrugged. "I said it, I was interested in him so I helped him. I can't help it. He's cute. Who are you?"
"I asked first."
"Right, I'm Axon Mayers." The now named stranger turned to me and stared me down with his alarmingly blue eyes. "You?"
"It's not your business. We're leaving, come on." Peter pulls Ty with him while Ty reach for me but was stopped when Axon pulled me back down. "If I have bad intentions I would've brought you at a motel that night then left you alone the next morning. I'm serious. I'm interested in you." His voice was so sincere it sent chills down my spine and warmed my cheeks. "I-" Peter gave the oddly silent Ty a look but he let me go instead and turned to pull his husband. "We'll give you ten minutes."
"I, um, how should I say this?" I sat back down and rub my neck nervously. "I'm sorry about that night. I had a rough week and was so out of it. I'm thankful that you helped me out, really. Sorry about Peter. He's just protective."
"I can see. I take it their married?"
I nod.
"Yeah. So can I ask what's your name?"
I bit my lip. "Elliot, Elliot Price." Again, he shoots me with his sexy smile and I feel my heartbeat rise in an alarming speed.
"I don't want to get under their skin any more than I already have so I'm going to let you go for now. Just one more thing."
I gulp and fiddle with my fingers. "Yes?"
"May I ask your number, Elliot?"
This might've been the happiest day I ever had after five years. I was sad and feeling worthless and suddenly my world turned upside down and I got fired, got drunk and crossed path with this man. It wasn't a fairytale meeting but it was worth it. I don't know what meeting him means but I'm ready enough to accept whatever comes into my way.
He's practically still a stranger to me. I know nothing but his name and where his place is. Axon Mayers might be a drug dealer or mafia leader for all I know but he got me with that smile of his and his laugh that seems to wash all your worries away. I don't know who Axon Mayers really is but I'm excited to find out. He might just be the new friend that I've been dying to have for so long or maybe, he's someone more than that.
