flashback
she sat at the table pushing the mashed potatoes that were accompanied by asparagus and blackened salmon not really in the mood to eat. She was forced to be at dinner to save face for her father in front of his colleagues.
she wanted to be in her bed rubbing her feet together and watching Lexi and Mark from Grey's Anatomy fall in love with each other
unfortunately, she was stuck at the table forced to listen to conversations she didn't care about. her posture slouched in boredom as she ignored the son of somebody at the table trying to catch her attention. She didn't know who he was but she knew he was rich. the YSL cologne and Rolex watch that sat on his wrist caught her attention as soon as he walked through the door. she thought it was odd that his dad wore cowboy boots under his suit.
these people had money and did not even know how to spend it correctly
somebody kicking her leg under the table caught her attention rather quickly making her head lift from her plate faster than she intended. she caught the eye of her mother realizing the look that she had in her eyes. despite her mom wanting to act everything but her skin tone she kept a few mannerisms
one being that look that would get you to tighten up without her having to say a word
she fixed her posture and plastered a fake smile on her face letting her mom know she understood her loud and clear. deciding to make her time worth while she decided to engage in conversation fully
" so what do you like to do ?" although he was white in skin he took his fathers black features, His curly hair sat in a bun on top of his head giving her a nice view of his soft eyes and slightly wide nose. His full lips looked soft and moisturized under the faint Vaseline that hadn't been taken by the food he was eating. the small hoop nose ring brought out his features perfectly. he was handsome she couldn't lie about that
" i like to write" she said softly and she did . anything from stories to poetry she had an interest in and even wrote for her schools newspaper from time to time. she planned to go to college for journalism and media studies. her parents didn't know that though because they wanted her to follow in their footsteps of being a lawyer or neurosurgeon.
" is that what you want to do for the rest of your life "
" it is actually"
" do your parents know that" his brows were raised and a slight smirk of amusement graced his face. she shook her head left to right, too afraid to say it out loud
" why not follow in their footsteps"
" everybody isn't meant to change lives" he let out a small laugh making her laugh with him
" I'm a little bored here, you want to get out of here ?" he asked her with a slight smirk on his face. he was impressed with what he saw and he wanted to go to a party to show her off. he wanted to see if she would loosen up and possibly get a chance to know her out of her pretty dress and good dinner.
" what do you have in mind ?"
" a friend of mine i know is having a party in Compton, you down to go" she grew a little worried about that. she didn't know about Compton but she had heard about it from her parents. they grew up there and never went back from what she could remember in her 17 years of living. her parents warned her about the place.
" i don't know" the uneasiness was on her face a little bit
" i got you" she hesitated for a little bit before shaking her head yes agreeing
