I ran down the hall, the feeling of Amanda's lips on mine still fresh on my mouth. Kyle was right on my heels, clapping me on the back.
"Way to go buddy," he said.
I rolled my eyes and ran faster. We got outside and hopped into the car.
"I hope Lucas isn't home yet," I stated as Kyle gunned his car down the street.
I looked back out the window. Amanda was outside watching our car disappear. I touched my lips and smiled. It was good while it lasted. When we made it to my house the lights were still off which meant Lucas wasn't home yet. I said goodbye to Kyle and thanked him for getting me to come and ran inside. I took my tuxedo off when I reached my room and stuffed it in the very back of my closet. I put on some basketball shorts and a tank top and laid on my bed. I got back up and searched through the tux for the invitation, but it wasn't there.
"Where is it?" I asked, frowning.
Don't tell me it fell out of my pocket. I sighed and palm faced myself. "Stupid!"
I closed my closet and laid back on my bed just as the door opened. Two pairs of feet walked up the stairs and my door was opened. Dylan and Cole walked in with smiles on their faces.
"How was the party guys?" I asked.
"It was awesome!" Dylan exclaimed.
"It was," Cole agreed. "Until some dude danced with Amanda instead of one of us. If I find out who that guy is, it's not gonna be good."
He punched his hand making me roll my eyes.
"So how was it cleaning Dad's room?" Dylan smirked.
I shrugged. "It's the same as always, horrible. Now please get out."
I stood up and pushed them out into the hall, slamming the door in their faces.About 10 minutes later the front door open and I knew it was Lucas.
"How was your date, Dad?" Cole asked.
"Amazing," Lucas beamed making me snort in laughter.
Brittany is a trooper for putting up with Lucas. I shut my eyes tight and reached under my pillow hoping it was still under there. Hoping I didn't put it in the pocket of my tuxedo and left it behind. Hoping the invitation, the one picture I have of Amanda isn't gone. I came out empty handed and shoved my face into the pillow. This cannot be happening. To make me feel better I thought about tonight. I had so much confidence when I had that mask on, but now that it's over, I'm back to my old self. I thought about when Amanda and I were at the fountain. How her purple eyes sparkled in the starlight. How beautiful she was in that light pink dress. I thought about us dancing under that light pink spotlight. The kiss; the kiss is the most important thing I remember. The way her lips felt on mine, so soft and smooth. I touched my lips again. I got off the bed and went to the window. A big star was shining through. I closed my eyes.
"I wish Amanda was mine," I whispered. "No Daniel, no Lucas, no Dylan or Cole. Just me and Amanda."
I opened my eyes and sighed, knowing that the wish wasn't gonna come true, but it was still nice to dream.
