[Anzel's POV]

"Pops! I can't believe you! Mooom-" Fana hollers over Skype at us, after hearing our latest pack activity update, in particular about the one for the entire next week.

"I know, sweetie. It's just a formality though. Everyone knows they won't get together anyway, because." Mom says in a duh tone.

Since a long time ago, there's been a destructive tradition established in between powerful packs about matching non-mate werewolves to strengthen the pack and family relations for both parties involved, but nowadays that practice is slowly dying out of time because it turns out to be bad in the long term. More families and packs are weakened than strengthened by the fake unions, because the forcefully united souls simply weren't matched by the Moon Goddess Herself.

Statistically speaking, there's been more cases of broken packs and families than ever nowadays that result in smaller werewolf communities around the globe. Now, werewolves and vampires stand on an almost equal numbers as the most powerful supernatural minorities. It's not too alarming, but we have to preserve our blood from disappearing with time.

The werewolf elders in the United Supernatural Council have witnessed everything from the beginning and finally admitted that it's a sort of a malpractice, so they have all voted and thankfully banned it from continuing in today's day and age.

Now, the tradition still persists, but it's only a front and a shell of what it used to be, so it's harmless. Two or more packs that want to make an alliance will send their most eligible unmated candidates into a host pack alongside the Alpha families for a week only for formality reasons, besides to help the candidates to find their true mates as soon as possible.

"But- Kline-"

"Enough, Fa. We're strictly treating it only as a packs and businesses bonding week, nothing more." Pops stresses gently.

Fana turns her piercing eyes at me. "I wish I'm there to keep an eye on both you and Kline."

"What? We don't need a babysitter." I look at her in disbelief.

"That's not it! I don't want a mateless idiot to come in between you two! I've met enough hormonal teens to know that they're just the same everywhere I go. They make me want to spank them with my adult hands." She protests.

Mom rolls her eyes and gets up as she knows what's coming when we start to argue, then she pulls Pops away from the sofa we're at so they can escape from the battle zone. "Kids, dinner is in half an hour okay. Make sure to sign out by then~" She calls out to us as we ignore her.

"Hello, beloved customer, this isn't Werewolf Highschool Drama Series, I apologise but can you switch your channel to your preferred genres? It'll save you a complaint or two. Have a nice day." I pull out my rare sass card.

"You wait there. I'm coming home as soon as Friday and stay close to you two for the whole week." She says in a no-nonsense voice.

I sigh desperately. "You realise that I'm not eight, don't you?"

"You're still my baby brother! And Kline is very vulnerable right now, who knows maybe he'll get serenaded by some horny old geezer or something? He's popular around that kind of people, you know?"

Her words make my veins pop out on my temple. "He's not getting mated to anyone like that! HEY! How do YOU know the things that I don't?!"

Fana fans my rising anger even more by saying conspiratorially, "You'd know, if only you've been more out there with him. I've been to his workplaces around town. His superiors-"

FUCK. It's not my fault I'm younger than him by a few long years! I punch the tea table. It makes the laptop and books on it rattle. "See, now you understand my dilemma, brother. We have to protect him at all costs."
