Oliver’s owl hadn’t returned the next morning. By the time Serena woke up, her parents had already left for work. Another day all by herself. Her plan was to head over to the Tutshill Tornados Stadium and watch their practice, but her father told her she wasn’t allowed to go wandering around on her own.

She slowly got out of bed and headed downstairs to the kitchen. Her mother had left out a plate of cinnamon rolls for her. She picked one up and sat down at the table. The Daily Prophet was sitting next to the plate of cinnamon rolls. Sirius Black was on the cover and he immediately caught Serena’s attention. His face was pale and waxy. He was frail and he looked like a skeleton but yet he looked strangely familiar.

“Where have I seen you before?” she muttered. She pushed the paper aside and came to the conclusion that she was acting crazy. There was no way she had ever seen that man before. He’s been in Azkaban for most of her life. When she finished her breakfast, she was about to head upstairs when she heard a loud POP! Serena froze in her tracks. There was someone in her house.

Serena reached for her wand when she realized she had left it upstairs in her room. Her heart was pumping as she entered the living room. There were footsteps coming from upstairs. She looked at the front door and thought about making a run for it. But, who was it? She wanted to know.

“Rena? Where are you?”

Serena’s body relaxed when she realized that the voice belonged to Maggie. She traipsed down the stairs with a huge smile on her face.

“For Godric’s sake Maggie, you scared me half to death!” said Serena. Maggie kept smiling.

“Sorry, I thought you’d be in your room. I wanted to surprise you!”

“Well you surely did surprise me,” she said. “I see you’ve passed your Apparation test.”

Maggie smiled and nodded her head. She had turned seventeen earlier in June so she was now a legal adult. She could use magic outside of school and Apparate.

“The test wasn’t too hard,” said Maggie. “There were a bunch of other people there taking it too. One boy failed because he left his legs behind. It was quite gruesome. The Accidental Magic Reversal Squad had to come and put him back together. I felt bad because the one girl beside me failed just because she left a strand of hair behind. I, however, passed with flying colors!”

Maggie was prancing around Serena’s living room with her wand emitting different colored sparks. Serena was jealous that she was the youngest out of all her friends.

“That’s brilliant, Maggie,” said Serena with a hint of jealousy in her tone. “But, why did you come to surprise me?”

“Oh!” said Maggie. “I just wanted to see if you wanted to come to Diagon Alley today with me and Olivia. We were going to buy our books for the new term…and get a little shopping done.”

Serena thought about it. She did want to get out of the house, but shopping wasn’t really her thing. Olivia and Maggie were usually the ones who could try on clothes all day, but Serena would rather watch a Quidditch match.

“Please, Rena?” begged Maggie. “I’ll buy you an ice cream at Fortescue’s!”

“Damn, you know my weakness,” said Serena. “Okay fine. Just let me shower and I’ll meet you guys there.”

“Yay!” said Maggie right before she Disapparated.

Serena rolled her eyes and headed up to her room. She jumped in the shower quickly, put on some comfortable clothes, brushed her long brown hair and added a tiny bit of make-up to her green eyes. She was about to leave when something at the window caught her eye.
