Maggie and Olivia have been avoiding Serena for the past two weeks. The most interaction they had was sharing a room together. Her friends refused to speak to her. Serena wished that they would talk to her. She needed her friends. It was a week before Christmas break and Serena wrote to her parents telling them that she'd be coming home.
Dear Mum and Dad,
I'm coming home for the holidays. I hope you have time to take off from work. I really need you guys right now. We have a couple of important things to discuss.
Serena
Serena attached the letter to Blizzard and sent him off. She stood in the Owlery freezing her arse off looking out across the mountain range. She couldn't stop thinking about Sirius Black and her powers. She was starting to feel like she was drowning. She was trying to stay afloat. She couldn't juggle her friends, Oliver, Quidditch, school, Sirius Black and her powers all at once. She just wanted to go home. She wanted to cry in her mother's arms like she used to when she was a child. She wanted her father to hug her and tell her everything was going to be okay. A couple of tears cascaded down her cheek as she thought about how much she wished things could be different.
Serena made her way down to the Great Hall for breakfast. She had been sitting at the Gryffindor table with Oliver, Fred and George because Maggie and Olivia were sitting with a couple other seventh year Slytherins. Serena looked over at them and frowned. They looked so happy. Or at least they were good at pretending they looked happy.
"It's going to be all right, love," said Oliver wrapping his arm around her. "Your friends are just mad. They'll get over it."
"It's been two weeks," said Serena. "We've never not spoken this long before."
"They'll get over it, they're girls," said Fred chiming in.
"Yeah, isn't it like a written law or something that girls must forgive each other after a certain amount of time?" asked George.
"Want us to take care of it?" asked Fred. Serena didn't even want to know what he meant by that.
"No thanks," she said. "I'm sure everything will sort itself out. All I can do is keep apologizing."
"Man, girls are no fun," said George.
Serena sat by Oliver in Transfiguration and watched Maggie and Olivia most of class. She wished that she were sitting next to them transfiguring Flint's nose into a pig snout.
"You want to practice tonight?" asked Oliver when the bell rang.
Serena shrugged her shoulders. She wasn't really in the mood to do anything.
"It's okay, we could just hang out. We only have a couple more days together before the holidays."
Serena's heart sank. She didn't want to leave Oliver for a month. She desperately wished that she could go to his home for the holidays, but she had already told her parents that she was coming.
"What are you doing for Christmas?" asked Serena.
"Just staying at home, I believe," he said. "Why?"
Serena thought about it for a moment. She could surprise her parents and bring Oliver with her to her house so they could spend Christmas together. It was a risk, but her parents wouldn't dare say anything rude to his face and they most certainly wouldn't kick him out.
