Roman walked into the dark apartment. That's odd. He's usually home by now.
"Storm Cloud?" Roman called, flicking on a light to see rose petals forming a trail on the ground. He followed them up the stairs into their bedroom. "Virgil? Honey, where are you?"
Roman opened the door, half expecting to see Virgil on the bed in some scandalous position, but instead he was greeted with a closed laptop, a red rose, his burgundy suit, and a letter, sealed with gold wax. He opened the letter and a flash-drive fell out. He checked to see if there was anything written but the page was blank. Roman plugged the flash-drive into the computer, opening the only file on it entitled, The_Game.
He was greeted with his boyfriend's smirking face.
"Hey, Princey. Want to play a game?" Roman shook his head with a chuckle. This dork was re-enacting Saw.
"I have some simple instructions for you. Put on the suit and take the rose with you on your journey. By the end, you should have five. You have until 7 pm, on the dot, to complete your tasks and find me. If you don't, you don't get your reward. You'll find your first clue in your suit. Are you ready? Good. Let the game begin." Virgil snapped his fingers and the laptop screen went black.
Roman hurriedly changed into the suit and reached into the breast pocket. Sure enough, there was a small letter sealed with gold wax. He opened the letter eagerly and deciphered Virgil's chicken scratch.

Solve the code to find your next clue:

17 1 12 12 25

Roman stared at the paper with his brows deeply furrowed when suddenly the realization dawned on him. 26 letters of the alphabet. Each letter corresponds with a number.

17=S
1=A
12=L
12=L
25=Y

Sally. The small black kitten Virgil and Roman has adopted a few months ago. Roman had laughed and remarked that Sally was the cat equivalent of Virgil. Small, angry, and clingy as hell.
Roman walked off to Sally's bed. The small cat was sleeping, and sure enough, a letter sealed with gold wax was tucked under her paws and a rose laid beside her. He plucked both away carefully, giving Sally a quick pet before popping open the envelope. Roman read the note with a smile.

Look at you go! I'm so proud of you, honey! Go to your home away from home, the place where you're more yourself than ever but you become someone new.

Roman would admit, he was a bit stumped. More yourself than ever but become someone else? He reread it to make sure he didn't miss anything. Roman internally face-palmed. Home away from home. The theatre.
Roman had to convince himself to slow down as he threw open the theatre doors. His best friend Patton was standing on the stage, a bright smile on his face, hiding something behind his back.
"Pat!" Roman cried happily, rushing to hug his friend.
"Hey, Kiddo! I got something for you!" Patton greeted him cheerily, handing him a rose and a small note sealed with gold wax. Roman giggled like a little kid, popping open the envelope and reading the clue.

Flower crowns, first kisses, and bonfires. Our place.

      Roman barely had to think about this one. He raced out to his car, immediately driving to their campsite. Roman found a gold-wax sealed envelope taped to the sign that bore their names. He popped it open and read the note.

Last clue! Call this phone number!
(787) 291-4660

      "Hello?"
      "Last clue." Roman knew that voice. It was Virgil's best friend.
      "Logan?"
      "Hello, Roman. Last clue. Are you ready?"
      "Hell yeah. What is it?" Roman was practically vibrating with excitement as he picked up his fourth rose.
      "Kissimmee lake, 497 Dandelion Trail."
      "What?" Roman questioned as Logan hung up on the other end. Kissimmee lake was a 45 minute drive if traffic wasn't bad. He checked his watch. 6:10 pm. He was gonna have to haul ass.
      Roman was going almost 10 miles per hour over the speed limit and he thanked every deity known to humankind that he was on a backroad.
      When he finally reached the address Logan had told him, he was met by a long dock, lined with small candles. He stepped out of the car, staring in awe. He looked down at his feet to see a gold wax sealed envelope and a red rose. He added the rose to his collection and popped open the envelope.

5 years. 4 musicals. 3 (million) kisses. 2 idiots. 1 last thing.

     Roman smiled as he walked further down the dock. When he reached the end he saw Virgil, his back turned towards him, wearing a crisp black suit with a black button down. He turned around with a bright smile on his face.
      "7 pm. On the dot. Very well done, Roman." Roman laughed at that and ran to hug his boyfriend.
      "What's all this about, Virgil?" Roman asked, pulling away from the hug.
      "Well, now you get your reward." Virgil pulled out a black velvet box and dropped to one knee. Roman clapped a hand over his mouth. Am I dreaming? I'm dreaming. This isn't real.
      "Roman Alexander Prince, will you marry me?" Virgil popped open the box, revealing a simple gold ring with a band of black crystals. Roman felt his eyes fill with tears. He couldn't speak, he could barely move. He nodded, letting out a happy sob.
       "Yes?" Virgil asked, his voice filled with laughter.
      "Yes! Oh my god, of course, yes! Virgil, yes!" Roman finally got his words out, pulling his boyfriend—no—fiancée into a tight embrace. He sobbed into Virgil's hair, he had never remembered a time when he'd been so happy.
      "You gotta put the ring on, Princey!" Virgil laughed, pulling away from the hug. He grabbed Roman's left hand and slid the band on his ring finger. Roman examined it before shooting a playful glare at Virgil.
       "I can't believe you proposed to me with a Saw reference, you fucking nerd."

A/N: Roman's engagement ring!
