Virgil felt his stomach churn uncomfortably. He was too nervous, he couldn't do this, it was gonna hurt, he was gonna bleed, he was gonna regret it.
"Ro. Ro, I can't do this, let's go home, I don't wanna do this, I can't..." Virgil's own voice became background noise. He was fully aware of his rambling but he could stop himself. His stomach felt like a worm had coiled itself tightly around his organs.
"Virge, you say that every time, and every time, it's just fine. Okay? Rem always does a good job and you're always thrilled. This time is gonna be no different, baby," Roman sounded like he was underwater as Virgil struggled to breathe. He tried to suck in a breathe but wound up choking on air, only furthering the feeling of panic. The car stopped moving, but it was too fast. Virgil's head spun.
       "I can't breathe, I can't breathe, I'm gonna die, I can't—" A harsh sob tore through Virgil's throat, cutting him off.
"Virgil, you aren't going to die. This is just a panic attack. They don't last. I'm going to grab your hand, is that okay?" Roman's worried green eyes were the only thing in focus as Virgil fought against his own lungs.
      "I can't breathe, I can't-can't breathe!"
"Virgil, I need you to give me an answer. You don't have to talk, just nod or shake your head. Can I grab your hand?" Roman reached out his hands to take Virgil's. Virgil just wanted it to stop. He wanted to breathe, he wanted to feel okay, he hated this, he hated this, he hated this. He forced himself to nod, prompting Roman to grab his hand tightly and press it to his chest.
"Can you feel my heartbeat?" Virgil nodded weakly. "Okay, good, just focus on my heartbeat. I'm right here Virgil, we're going to get through this. Just try and breath, okay?" Virgil nodded again, taking drawn out but shallow breaths.
       "That's good, babe. Keep breathing."
Eventually, through Roman's gentle encouragement, air finally entered Virgil's lungs and the worm in his stomach slowly disappeared.
"Virge," Roman's voice brought Virgil out of his daze. "Can I hug you?" Virgil managed a small nod and a shaky smile before being engulfed by Roman's sturdy arms.
      "Are you doing okay, Virgie?"
"I'm fucking exhausted but I do feel a little better." Roman laughed lightly, making Virgil's heart melt.
"You say that every time... do you think you're ready?"

"I should just start expecting you two to be at least 20 minutes late." Remy remarked trough his coffee. "Earring anxiety?"
"What cup of coffee is that, Rem? Nine?" Virgil retorted, watching his friend freeze mid-sip.
"Touché," he set down his cup, putting on his gloves. "You ready, babe?"
"Easy, Rem," Roman warned, prompting a small laugh from his boyfriend.
        "As I'll ever be."
