AU: Mythology AU
Ship(s): Prinxiety, Logicality, Emile Picani is Logicality's son.
T/W: Major character death, crying, a Greek myth with non-Greek gods, drinking mention.
Type: Fluff/Angst
Notes: This is basically the story of Apollo and Hyacinthus but instead of having the normal Greek pantheon I'm creating my own with the Sides. Classics nerds, please don't drag me.~~~~~
The god of wisdom walked into a room. His head held high, and his manner dignified, and his purpose clear. Get his six-year-old to stop crying.
"Emile, why are you crying?" Logan asked his son, who was currently bundled in his Steven Universe comforter. Emile looked up, his blue eyes puffy and glossy with tears.
"I can't sleep, Dad," Emile said. "Can you get Pops?" Logan sighed and nodded, beckoning his husband into their son's room.
"Emmy, what's wrong, sweetheart?" Patton asked, a hint of worry in his voice. He sat on the bed, gently brushing Emile's curls out of his face.
"I can't sleep."
"Well, that's nothing a story can't fix, is it?" Patton cleared his throat and began. "Once upon a time..."~~~~~
The god of music sat on his throne, watching the mortals from above. One young man caught his eye. Roman sat up in his chair for a better view. The young man was pale with dark hair and mismatched eyes. His fair skin was dotted with freckles. He looked as delicate and beautiful as a flower as he painted the scene before him. Roman knew he had to meet the painter. He had to know the person who held such beauty. He quickly brought himself down to Earth, just watching the mortal paint.
"You're very good at that," Roman remarked, almost forgetting himself. The mortal shrieked and threw his paintbrush at that Roman.
"Oh my stars, I'm so sorry, I—" The mortal's voice trailed off and his eyes widened as he realized who he was talking to. "Roman, god of the sun, please forgive me," the mortal spoke quickly, dropping to his knees and clutching Roman's cloak to beg for forgiveness. The god nearly laughed as he extended a hand.
"God of music mostly, really. Don't apologize, it was my mistake. I didn't mean to startle you, my fair flower. If you do me the pleasure of telling your name, all shall be forgiven." The mortal slowly rose to his feet, his ears tinted pink.
"Virgil," he said in his melodic voice. "My name is Virgil." The god smiled.
"Virgil. A beautiful name." Roman kissed Virgil's hand watching in delight as he blushed.
Hours turned to days, days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months. Slowly, cautiously, the pair fell in love. It was at this point that Emile interrupted the story.~~~~~
"That's just like you and Dad! A god falling in love with a mortal! Are they gonna live happily ever after just like you?" Emile bounced in his seat, his curls flying everywhere. Patton chuckled softly and pulled Emile back into his chest.
"Let me finish and you'll find out." Emile settled down, tucking himself under his father's chin.
"Everything was happy as could be... but Virgil was loved by another." Emile gasped.
"No!"
"Yes."~~~~~
The trickster god sat on his throne, watching Roman and the man he loved. Together. Happy. It made him furious. Slowly, in his dark, twisted brain, a plan evolved.
"If he won't love me, he won't love anyone."
The next day, while Virgil was painting, the trickster struck. He drew his knife and plunged it into Virgil's back, between his ribs. Virgil cried out and suddenly the trickster was gone.
Roman heard the cry of his love. He searched frantically from his place in the clouds, fearing the worst. That's when his eyes landed on the worst.
"VIRGIL!" He called, rushing to his side. "Virgil," Roman cradled his head, "My love, stay with me, it's okay... it's okay, I can heal you..!" Virgil shook his head weakly.
"Just stay with me." He cupped Roman's face, gently wiping his tears. "I love you."
"I love you too, my darling." Virgil drew his last breath, leaving Roman alone.~~~~~
"And to honor him, and immortalize their love, Roman turned his body into the most beautiful thing he could imagine. A flower. Hyacinths, actually." Emile looked utterly betrayed as Patton finished the story.
"Pops, that was the most depressing thing I've ever heard. Why would you tell me that?! It's just over and he's dead!" Paton chuckled and pet his son's hair.
"Who said it was over?"~~~~~
The god of music walked into a bar, sitting next to his boyfriend.
"Hello, my flower." The same pale face, dotted with the same freckles, holding the same mismatched eyes turned to look at Roman.
"Hey, sunshine."
