Chapter 3: Fighting the urge

It's been a week since I heard the news that my mate was actually a vampire...I couldn't believe it and I was unable to muster the courage to ask him. If he was a vampire I'm not sure I would want to be with him, but he is the complete opposite of everything my elders had taught me about the race! He was kind, gentle , yet tough and badass as at the same time ....he was just like me! We had been talking every day and we had so much in common. Today is the day I will ask him once we are alone after school I will have him stop by the lake near my house on the mountain so we can speak freely! I have to know!

We made our way through the day as normal taking and joking from one class to the next , eating our normal meals at lunch! When suddenly Avery (who had been vying for damien's attention to no avail all week) came out of nowhere shoving me down the court yard steps! I tried to control my breathing but couldn't help but let out a low menacing growl...her minions fled but she stayed and motioned towards me again. Damien grabbed her arm holding her back while asking in a concerned voice "Are you ok Addie?" I looked into his eyes and he looked pained seeing me scraped from the fall. " I'm ok! Let her come. If she wants a fight then it's a fight she will get!" I said. Damien looked at me a smirk slowly forming on his face as he released her arm he looked between us and shrugged.

Avery rushed me trying to grab my short hair which failed! She began throwing punches of which I let her land a few (to make the fight more fair). I never threw a punch I waited for her to lunge at me again but I dodged and grabbed her arm flipping into the air over me, as he body twisted I heard her shoulder pop from the socket as she yelped in pain her body connected with the cement and I heard the crack of bone!
She cried loudly in pain the crowd around us all winced upon her impact and then stared at me in shock...they had never seen anyone try to fight me so they had no clue this would happen!
I slowly walked to her taking a bandana from my jacket pocket I shoved it into her mouth then I popped her shoulder back into place (making her scream again) then made a sling from the bandana. I helped her slowly to her feet and took her to see the nurse. I was not suspended just given detention, as was damien for not stopping us! Avery was taken to the hospital and treated for 3 broken ribs and given a real sling while her shoulder healed. She was to stay home for a few days since she attacked me first.

Damien looked at me in detention and said "why?why did you help her after she attacked you like that?"
I smiled and said "just because she attacked me doesn't mean I have no compassion for someone that is injured."
This made him laugh and smile so broadly that I saw his fangs poke through and glisten in the light ...my sapphire eyes widened and heart sped up a tiny bit.

Damien stopped his head spinning towards me as he heard my heart rate increase. When he saw my expression he knew exactly what I saw. He crossed the room so fast I barely saw the movement. Damien cradled my face with his hands "I'm so sorry! I..I..I was going to tell you!I just, i didnt know when or how. I know our kind has a terrible and violent history and i didn't want that to determine if we liked one another! I-"
I covered his mouth with my hand while laughing....."slow. Down. I already knew .. kind of..... a witch close to my family called and told us. I was going to ask you about it after school. "
His expression changed from fear to shock! " You .. you knew but didnt say either?"
"Yes , I wanted to see for myself because from what I had seen you were nothing like what I was taught about vampires! I liked you ....I knew you....um.. nevermind"
"No don't do that ....you knew what ? That i was your ....MATE!? Its ok I knew you were mine the day we met...please tell me the truth once we leave here we will stop at that lake on the mountain and talk!ok? "
"Of course"
