A FLASHBACK:

It was Thursday. Drew woke up to the rhythmic beeping of his persistent alarm. With a groan, he slammed the button to stop it from beeping.

He sat up in his bed. Normally he hated when his alarm halted his slumber. But today wasn't the kind of day to be angry. The Florida sun was soaking in through the curtains, birds were singing gleefully outside the window.  It was a beautiful day.

A beautiful enough day to spontaneously decide to go on a hike.

He didn't often do things like that, in fact he was lucky if he even made it a single step outside his home. But he decided that it's important to start to gain more of a respect and love for nature.

One problem, though: If he was gonna go hiking, he'd need someone to watch his cat. Who did he know that was nice and qualified enough to do that for him?

He thought for a while. Then he came to a conclusion. He didn't know anyone like that.

Not that his friends weren't dependable or nice. On the contrary, they were always there for him. It was just that Bim Bim tended to be... a nightmare. She was best compared to a toddler- while it was great to have her around, and Drew would never wish her ill, Bim Bim was hard to deal with. She was destructive, disrespectful, and just a handful.

So, Drew decided he'd text Danny. Because at the very least, Danny was reliable. Not even someone like Bim Bim could destroy their friendship.

He opened up his iMessage and typed a quick simple text.

"Hey guy."

Danny replied within seconds: "hey!"

"You free to watch bimbim"

"Yeah. why, where you goin?"

"hiking"

"hiking? for how long?"

"idk... a week? we'll see. you can just text me if bim gets too hard to handle and ill come back."

"sounds good."

"Thanks bro I owe you."

"np dude. see you soon"

----------------------------

Drew closed his iMessage tab so he could go look up hiking trails that were somewhat close to where Danny lived.

He found a nice one. Limestone Park. The images were serene and beautiful, but it wasn't a highly reviewed trail. Which made him all the more excited- maybe he wouldn't run into too many people there.

He started to Google hotels near the hiking trail. Once he found a cheaply-enough-priced one with good reviews, he booked it. This was turning out to be a pretty convenient get-away.

---------------------

"Come along, Bim Bim," Drew said. "You're staying with Danny for the next few nights."

Bim Bim hissed, as though to complain "Him? Why?"

"Because, I'm not lugging you along on my private hike. Who does that? And if you stay here unattended, who knows what you'll do to my house?"
