I hope this is obvious, but (Y/N) is Iruka's age in this oneshot. Also, her family isn't dead or anything, she just lives on her own because she's a responsible adult. Happy reading! -obi

You rolled out of bed after being woken up by the morning sun shining through your curtains. You rubbed your eyes, yawning and stretching. Taking a peek in the mirror, you ran a hand through your messy bedhead. You managed to get it partially tamed, then winked at yourself in the mirror, grinning. As you shuffled from your room to the kitchen, your stomach growled loudly. Chuckling, you remembered when you lived with your family and how your siblings would tease you for your ravenous appetite. How can they blame you? Food is good.

You peeked inside your fridge, perusing your options. Wow, a whole chunk of cheese and two probably spoiled eggs! You suddenly remembered the note you had thrown on the fridge last night after finding yourself in a similar situation: Buy groceries!! You decided to take a peek in the pantry, just in case. Wow, three loose Cheerios and assorted cans of God-knows-what! You wondered how the cereal got there, seeing as you almost never ate plain Cheerios. You shrugged it off, shuffling back to your room to get dressed.

You browsed your closet, frowning. You didn't feel like putting effort into your outfit that day. You threw in a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt you found on the floor. You looked again in the mirror, and seeing that your hair hadn't changed from when you first fixed it, you decided it was fine and threw on your Standard Issue Ninja Sandals. You headed out the door, after remembering you needed money to buy things and snagged your wallet.

As you walked into the grocery store, your stomach growled again, as though it was reminding you why you were here. You grabbed a basket and started shopping. As you found your way to the cereal aisle, you noticed that they moved your favorite cereal. Again. It's almost like they didn't want you to have it or something. While you were looking for it, you didn't even realise someone else was in the aisle also, browsing cereals. You finally spotted your cereal, finding it higher than usual. You rushed toward it, feeling victorious about finding it.

In your haste, you accidentally bumped into the man whom you didn't notice. You immediately turned red and spilled out excuses, making wild gestures in your panic. "I'm so so so so sorry sir! Are you okay? It's my fault, I wasn't looking where I was going! I--"

He cut you off, placing a hand on your shoulder and sending you an apologetic smile. "You're fine! Everyone makes mistakes. I wasn't paying attention either," He chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.

He removed his hand from your shoulder to reach for the box of cereal he had originally set his eyes on. Your eyes widened, noticing something you two had in common. "Hey, that's my favorite cereal!" You said, as though it was some amazing new discovery.

"Really? Mine too," he smiled, grabbing one for you and handing it to you. You thanked him, and as you continued on in your shopping, you found that you both were going to all the same parts of the store.

"... and he says 'Believe it!' after every other sentence," he chuckled, as he told you about one of his students. "He's such a goofy kid, but I love him. Like a son, almost."

Your conversation continued as you reached the checkout lines. As you paid for your groceries, you smiled at him, knowing you had to say goodbye. "See ya later... uhh.." you trailed off, realising you never learned his name.

"Iruka," He finished for you.

"Ah, I'm (Y/N). Can't believe I forgot to tell you my name..." You sweatdropped, cursing your scatterbrained mannerisms. It was too early in the day for this.

"It's okay! Hope we meet again soon, (Y/N)!" Iruka grinned, and then he was off.

God, I sure hope we do, you thought to yourself, sighing happily and smiling.

You snapped back to your senses, realising you were standing at the end of a checkout line looking like a dork. Crap, now I look even more like a weirdo.

and she never did eat her breakfast because she died of embarrassment right there.
