Kiba nudged you in the shoulder. "You gonna say anything to him?"
Kiba was your best friend since the academy days. You both did a bunch of stupid things together. The difference between you and Kiba, however, was that you knew where to draw the line in your stupidity. So basically, you kept Kiba out of a lot of trouble.
You shared a lot of things with each other, like the aforementioned stupidity, but mainly secrets. One day, back in the academy, you had made the mistake of telling Kiba that you had a crush on possibly the weirdest boy in the class (by everyone else's standards, anyway), Shino. Ever since that day, he never let you forget it. Even more so, when he was placed on a team with the bug boy.
"Shut up!" You elbowed him back. "I mean, not like I don't want to or anything... but that's not the point!" Your face heated up slightly as you rebuked him.
Kiba groaned, "You sound just like Hinata whenever Naruto walks within a 10-mile radius of her."
"And what's the problem with that?" You pouted jokingly. Hinata was another one of your close friends. Maybe Kiba was right. Maybe she was rubbing off on you.
"I'm just saying you should talk to him," he replied, shoving you gently in Shino's direction. You crossed your arms, taking this as a challenge. A smirk spread across your face.
"Fine! Maybe I will!" And with that, you stomp away from Kiba and toward Shino.
As you did so, you realised your fatal flaw.
You didn't have a plan.
"Crap," you mumbled to yourself, your previous determination waning.
"What was that?" Shino glanced toward you, taking his attention away from the bug that sat on his finger. You mentally panicked, not knowing what to do.
"Uh-- nothing, nothing. Just talking to myself," You chuckled nervously, waving your hands in wild gestures, as though trying to deflect his judgement.
His eyebrows furrowed, and even though he was wearing dark glasses, you could feel his eyes burrowing into you, trying to figure you out. "Your face is red," he declared finally, after examining you thoroughly. "Are you okay?"
Woah. Shino? Showing concern for a human being? This is new.
This, however, only made your face more red. "I-I'm fine! I promise!" You stuttered, cringing at how you sounded and probably looked.
He nodded knowingly. "I see."
After a pause, he continued.
"You have a crush on Kiba?"
This time, you didn't get flustered or embarrassed. You were honestly just confused. "Wh-- no...? Where did you get that idea?"
"Ah, I see," he repeated, but this time he didn't follow it up with anything.
You studied your sandals as his bugs went about their business around you. You really wanted to tell him, but didn't know how to bring it up. You could tell he wanted to say something too, and silently you urged him to say it.
You built up your courage, and you both resolved to speak your mind and the same time.
"I'm gay!" "York peppermint patties are disgusting!" You said in unison.
my hand slipped-- here's the real thing:
"I like you!" You blurted in unison, proceeding to look up at each other in embarrassment and shock. You looked away, your face red.
"(Y/N)... will... will you go out with me?" Shino asked quietly.
"Of course I will!" You engulfed him in a spine-crushing hug, grinning.
Meanwhile, a few yards away, Kiba wiped away a fake tear. "They grow up so fast."
