Harry was used to the daily life of a Hogwarts student by now- especially the part where Draco does something to annoy, hurt or bother Harry. It'd been like that for years now.
At this point, Harry was hardly even annoyed by it. He'd even miss it when he left. Draco was part of his Hogwarts life and he'd miss every part of it. Except for the fighting Voldemort, maybe.
This, very unusual day, started with something he hadn't expected: a note. Not just any note, but a note from his rival, Draco Malfoy. His writing was surprisingly neat and, well, nice. He ran a finger over the indents Draco's quill had left as he followed the cursive. He'd read the note so many times it was practically memorised. Draco wanted to meet. And not just anywhere but in the Forbidden Forest. Part of Harry was suspicious, extremely suspicious. What could Draco possibly want with him? For years, they were enemies.
Harry's other, larger part was extremely curious. And, although curiosity killed the cat, Harry had survived all of Voldemort's attacks. So, he went at the allotted time and sat down to wait for Draco. It seemed he was late. That, too, was odd for Draco and, when Harry began thinking, he was completely sure that he'd been tricked. But he did arrive.
"Potter.," The familiar voice said. He had not been tricked. And that made Harry both annoyed and excited. "I wasn't sure you'd come."
Harry stood from the rock that he was sitting on. He turned to the voice and saw Draco. He looked eloquent as always. His hair was getting longer as he aged so he looked very similar to his father. The only difference between the two was age and that Draco's hair was shorter. He had it tied in a neat ponytail. His eyes were sharp as always. He was wearing a very familiar smirk, the one he wore every time he mocked Harry, or anyone, really. He was quite handsome but, his personality was far from pleasant. Harry wondered how he even had friends sometimes.
"Well, I wasn't sure that I'd come either." Harry replied bitterly.
Draco rolled his eyes. "Stop being a prat for like 3 seconds, okay?"
"Me? A prat?"
"Well, at least try!"
Harry scoffed. It was clear that this was not going to be what he thought it would be. Though now he wasn't sure what he was expecting from this.
"What do you want, Draco?" He asked, not bothering to hide his annoyance.
"I want to stop whatever the hell we're doing now!," Draco exclaimed. Before then, Harry hadn't even noticed his twitching and fidgeting. Draco was nervous. Whether because of his father's actions or Harry's was a mystery. "I don't want to be your sworn enemy. I'm sick of forcing myself to be an arse to you. I don't actually think that you're that bad! I just don't get why you hate me!"
Harry was fuming. It was almost as though he hadn't noticed the almost-compliment from Draco. "You don't get why?! Draco, you've been bullying me senselessly since year 1! And it's not just me! Bullies are not decent people! You are not a decent person!"
Draco looked down, clearly hurt. He had not thought his through well enough. He didn't think he'd have to say these things. But Harry was not making this easy. "Well Maybe I want to be a decent person." He muttered.
That was also a shock to Harry. However, he reacted the way he planned to; like a prat. "Well what the bloody hell do you want me to do about it?"
"Teach me how!"
Although Draco looked desperate, Harry did not let up. Whether it was pent up anger or something else, he did not stop. Maybe he was a prat. "Alright! Step 1, don't send ominous notes to your enemies and lure them into the forbidden forest just to call them a prat!"
Although Draco was not a nice person, it wasn't like Harry was a saint. This was evident by his reaction to Draco's reaching out. And he knew that. Draco was trying to be decent. That wasn't a crime, was it? Besides, the blonde did look serious. That made Harry soften up- just a little bit.
"Okay." He said. "What do you want?"
"Well.. I thought step one would be inviting you here, luring you into the forbidden forest..," he grinned. Harry couldn't help but let his own grin escape. "I thought maybe we could create a truce sort of thing. If we made up, maybe that'd help."
"Okay.," Harry agreed. Maybe Draco wasn't such a dunce after all. "But this doesn't make us friends."
"Oh, of course not."
The rest of Harry's day was pretty normal except for the smiles exchanged by Draco and Harry.
