They only kissed in private. They never held hands in classes or in the hallways. They never kissed each other goodbye. For all the world knew, they were still just new friends, which was shocking enough.
But, then their classes would end and they'd sneak off to the owlery or in a hidden corner of the library and just talk. Like today.
Harry sat on the floor against a wall of their huge library. Draco was beside him, head on his shoulder. They were simply reading. Such an innocent secret to keep from the students they knew. They'd never even gone farther than kissing. But somehow the secret felt personal, like it should stay a secret.
Eventually, Harry couldn't focus on the book. He wanted kisses again. He pressed his face to the side of Draco's, causing the blonde to laugh.
"I'm trying to study." He said quietly.
"I'm trying to kiss you." Harry responded.
"You're so needy.." Draco complained, but he did face Harry, giving him a gentle kiss. Then, he went back to their book. Harry, however, wasn't quite satisfied by that.
"How is it that my own boyfriend can't take the time to kiss me?" He said, as though he were an animal in distress.
"How is it that I'm dating the one guy who can't take 10 minutes to just study?" Draco retorted, his eyes still on the pages in front of him.
"I am studying.," Harry argued. "I'm studying your anatomy~"
That got his attention. Draco laughed and finally gave Harry what he wanted. He closed the book, putting it on the floor. "You like kissing me way too much."
"You don't like kissing me enough."
Harry and Draco stopped studying all together and began to kiss each other instead. Harry's lips eventually moved to Draco's neck and that's when Draco stopped him.
"We can't." He said sternly.
Harry was disappointed but, he agreed. They couldn't do anything in the library. Anyone could see them. He brought his kisses back up to meet Draco's lips.
Harry simply loved kissing Draco. He loved how, when they kissed for too long, Draco's breath became heavy and his cheeks would become rosy. He loved how messy Draco seemed to look after kissing, as though they'd done way more. He wanted to do way more. But that could wait. That could definitely wait.
When Draco finally stopped him, he was smiling. "Harry, I'm cutting you off." He teased.
"What? No! I haven't gotten enough yet." He insisted, looking up at Draco.
Draco shook his head and got up. "Harry, if you want to eat today, we should hurry." He said and helped Harry up.
God, their relationship was complicated. Harry just wanted to kiss him. He wanted to hold his hand and let the world know that Draco Malfoy was his. But Draco seemed to want the opposite.
He wanted Secrets. Which made sense but that didn't make Harry like it any more. When they got to the dining hall, they separated completely. Draco went to his friends and Harry to his.
Ginny was sitting with Ron, her eyes on Harry. "Hey, Harry." She said sweetly.
Harry nodded at her and sat across from Hermione. He simply whispered. "You were right." He said and she simply grinned.
"Harry, when am I ever wrong?"
She was right about that, Harry would've been stupid not to take her advice. And he was so glad he had.
Their friends didn't know about them, how could they? But at least Hermione had some clue. That was nice. He had a feeling Ron would never catch on, which he was grateful for.
His eyes wandered to Draco's and they shared a look. This was his life now. Secretive, complicated, but.. at least he was pretty happy. Besides, when had Harry Potter's life ever been uncomplicated?
