Present Time
NY, NY Motel

Emma shakes her head and splashes cold water onto her face until goosebumps appear on her arms and she shivers. Emma had to get this out of her head, the past was the past and there was nothing she could do about it. Nick Fury was a nice man, someone who helped her and stood by her as she tried to realize what had actually happened to her. Though he understood the day she asked him to allow her to leave, he gave her money and a phone to call him if she ever needed.

Emma hadn't touched either since that day.

The world was much more complicated now compared to how it had been almost sixty years ago, even during the war. Now, there was technology that allowed you to look things up in seconds. There were advanced trackers, phones that could go anywhere with you, and TVs that were larger than Emma herself.

Times Square was a place that Emma always thought was extraordinary. Whenever she and April passed through New York, Emma always made sure to stop there. That was where she had learned more about technology than anyone could ever teach her and, if she did say so herself, Emma had even become somewhat of a genius in that field but her skills were nothing compared to the agents in SHIELD and Hydra.

April groans and walks into the bathroom, her red hair was tousled into a knot on her head. She stops next to Emma and stares at herself in the mirror with a look of disgust. "So, you have a nightmare again?"

"Did I wake you?" Emma inquires.

"I was up." April shrugs. Emma rolls her eyes slightly. She loved April, like a friend, but she was a terrible liar. "So, another nightmare?"

"Yes." Emma nods slightly. "It's no big deal, I've had it before."

"Well, as long as you're okay." April mumbles under her breath while scoffing her toe against the floor. "We should probably pack up soon, don't want anyone to track us to this room just yet."

"I'll leave first." Emma offers with a small shrug. There wasn't much she could do to fix herself, she's tried before and failed miserably, so Emma just resulted to let whatever happen, happen.

"Okay, I need to shower anyway." April offers a small, tired smile. "I guess I'll see you later, at the park?"

"Yeah, at the park."

Sixty-Something Years Ago
Peggy Carter's Apartment
Afternoon-ish

"And you'll come straight home?" Peggy questions while fixing Emma's coat. "No messing around or staying with those Charles' children, they are a bad influence."

"Of course," Emma curtly nods. "I will go play with Alice for two hours and come home before you have dinner ready. You have to go to work tonight so John will be staying with me tonight."

"Yes." Peggy nods. "Good, you remember. I've taught you well."

Emma doesn't answer and watches Peggy turn away from her to look at a few files that she had spread across the kitchen island. After a few seconds of just staring at them, she finally turns back to Emma with a small smile. "John may stay longer than just tonight, I'm not sure how long this will take."

"That's okay." Emma offers a smile. "He makes great breakfast."

Peggy laughs and gestures for Emma to go on outside. With a wave, Emma disappears out of the apartment and is outside with Alice within five minutes. The two girls jumped around, sang as the walked on the sidewalk, and eventually made it to the park where their other friends were already waiting.

The two hours flew by faster than Emma would've liked, but she knew that Peggy was waiting for her at home. Peggy never left for work until Emma was at home, Peggy always wanted to say goodbye. Emma skips home, alone since Alice wanted to stay and play longer, her mind focused on what John would make for dinner and breakfast for the next few days.

She doesn't notice the car that slowly creeps out of the alley that she had just passed. The doors open and close, yet Emma ignores them. People drove around here all the time, what was the difference now?

Before she could react, someone wraps their arms around her waist and clamps their sweaty hand over her mouth. Emma screams and thrashes in the man's arms but he doesn't budge. The man turns to another, who was holding a needle that sparkled in the sunlight. Emma, being deathly afraid of them, starts to struggle harder to get away from it.

The little girl, unfortunately, was not strong enough to fight off her capturers. They had easily stabbed her left arm with the needle and injected her with a substance that made Emma dazed and confused almost instantly. Within seconds, she's thrown into the back of their car and it drives away, leaving nothing in its wake.

No evidence to lead to Emma's kidnappers, nothing to help them find her, and no witnesses to share the tale of the screaming little girl
