"you want me to what?" george said while molly held the baby up to his face."i want you to raise this baby with me!"
the words sounded better in her head, but when they spilt out, george couldn't help but smile. the baby doll was the weight of an actual child, and george thought he was creepy.
the two sat under molly's favourite tree in her backyard swinging in the hammock together.
"what's his name?" he asked with a hint of fear. molly laughed.
"i don't know... would you like to pick? i mean, since you're the father and all,"
george gave a small chuckle and held his hands out to hold the doll. he took him with a blank face. he held him awkwardly and almost strangely.
"isn't he just beautiful?" molly poked his side.
george pretended to fumble with him, accidentally dropping him on her face in the process. he gasped when it hit her eye, but she just laughed, holding her face.
"i am so sorry!" he said, but she just took the doll away from him.
"i cannot believe you dropped him!"
"hey, at least give the kid a name," george examined her eye, wincing at the red mark. "he's got a heavy head. like his father."
"i think i'll name him... george junior!" molly decided. "no... i'll confuse the two of you... how about... montgomery- no! bartholemew!"
"bartholomew?" george said through laughter.
"yes, it's perfect!" she laughed even harder this time. "bart, for short,"
"bartholomew is downright the ugliest bloody name i've heard," george said. "which makes it perfect?"
"exactly!" she exclaimed.
"an ugly name for an ugly baby," he retorted.
she scoffed. "he's not ugly!"
the sun shone especially bright that day. just enough to where you didn't need a jacket, but you definitely needed pants.
once the laughter died down a bit, they had a look at the baby doll once again. "bartholomew, huh?" george held him.
"that's our boy, george. our baby." molly caressed the dolls cheek.
oddly enough, molly didn't change out of her skirt right away. she left it on, full well knowing she could have changed out of it.
why? she didn't exactly have a reason, but it might've had something to do with the compliments she'd got from the boys.
"what'd'ya say we go feed our new baby?" george suggested as he hopped off the hammock with bart.
molly got up right after him and pulled her skirt down a tad. it rode up to her mid-thigh, prompting a stare from george. she couldn't blame him. he was only human.
"alright, but you're doing the dishes this time," she joked back.
the way that skirt fit her made george squirm in his seat while watching her.
she was preparing sandwiches for a mini-picnic in her backyard, and he sat back with bart. he sat at the dining room table, just watching her and thinking.
he wouldn't say he had a crush on her; maybe a harmless attraction. a simple mesmerization with her beauty. and personality. of course, no one knew.
