why did summers have to go by so quickly? the summer of fifty-eight went by in the blink of an eye.

molly could hardly wait to see paul at the end of the long week, and he could hardly wait to see her. they hadn't seen the other since church just a few days before, but they still missed each other like mad.

ever since her mother went into the coma, they didn't spend as much time together as they wanted to. paul totally understood, though, so he just wanked to a photo of her to calm his testosterone filled nights—which was nearly every night.

it was a brisk friday night, just in the beginning of august.

they agreed to meet at the library just before closing time, and molly would try to convince susie to let them stay after hours.

then, paul would finally be able to kiss her, to feel her again. he was starting to get impatient with her, but he always reminded himself that she was in pain most nights. it was either her mother or eduardo that made her lose her marbles. molly was unaware of his intentions. she only wanted to read a few books.

"are you sure she'll let us?" he asked while they entered the library.

"i sure hope so..."

they got up to the front desk where susie stood, reading a book. "hello there, molly!" she smiled at her.

"susie, i'd like you to meet my..." molly stopped, still unsure if they were in a relationship. "paul," she finally choked out.

still, paul didn't say anything about their 'relationship', if you could even call it that. they mostly just hung out or made out. nothing more, nothing less. molly wasn't even quite sure what she wanted, honestly.

it was a confusing situation.

"hello, paul!" susie greeted him cheerfully.

"susie," paul nodded.

after a pause, molly remembered the proposition. "susie, could i ask you something?"

"why, sure!" she replied. molly looked around to make sure susie's mother wasn't anywhere around. once the coast was clear, she turned back around.

"do you think you could... um... possibly allow paul and i to stay at the library after hours?" she asked with trembling hands.

molly often got anxious about ridiculous things, but it was always either george or paul to comfort her. this time, it was paul. he grabbed her hand and gave a reassuring squeeze.

susie stood there, thinking and checking to make sure her mother wasn't around. "well..." she began. "i don't see why not... as long as you don't get caught, i suppose i can let you stay..."

molly's heart leapt with joy when susie said this. many times she would get herself worked up only to be satisfied at the end.

"oh, susie! thank you!" molly half whispered-half yelled this. "we'll only be here for an hour or two after,"

"it's okay," she replied. "just lay low. my mother won't suspect a thing!"

"how will we get out?" paul asked.

"there's a window open over there," she pointed to an opened window behind them. "you can climb out of it as long as you leave it open. susie smiled and gave a thumbs up while walking past them.

with no delay, susie somehow convinced her mother to close up a bit earlier so the eager teens could have more time together.

they were sat just at the back so no one could see them, right by molly's favorite section of books. susie winked to the pair as she and her mother walked out.
