TAW Tales: How to Train Your Shifters (#1)

~ Chapter 2 ~

Birds chirped. Leaves rustled in the branches above me. I felt a gentle breeze on my skin.

Slowly, I opened my eyes a crack and blinked. Bright, dappled sunlight glared down from above through the brilliant green leaves, and the ever-present breeze blew through the branches.

I groaned and lifted my head, feeling flooding back into my limbs.

I was sprawled out on my stomach, and my red hair fell over my shoulder into my face, still tied up in my favourite, traditional ponytail. I clenched my hands and felt blades of fresh grass between my fingers.

My eyes were bleary. I blinked a few times to clear them, and what I saw made me shout in alarm and scramble backwards.

It was Luna's face, eyes closed and mouth agape. Her short, white hair flopped over in her face, and she too was lying on her stomach, face turned to the side. As I watched, she groaned loudly and opened her eyes.

"Willow...?"

She pushed herself into a sitting position and squinted, looking around. "Where are we?"

"I dunno," I said, glancing around. Then I caught sight of the others. They were all lying about on the grass, as if something had just dumped them there. Even as Luna and I gazed around at them in bewilderment, they started to stir and sit up.

"Ow..." Winter moaned. "My head hurts."

"Ugh, same," Everest muttered, holding her head. "Where are we?"

"That's what I asked," Luna replied.

"Guys, I know where we are!" I said brightly. "We're outside!"

I got what I deserved; a smack from Winter.

"Ow," I complained. "I just wanted to make you guys laugh!"

"This isn't a very funny situation, Willow," Zero said flatly.

We all stared at him.

"Um," he said, surprised. "Why are you all staring at me?"

"You've got - there's a..." Night stammered, but Everest beat her to it.

"Zero," she said deliberately. "There's a dragon on your head."
