CHAPTER 9: FATAL DECISIONS

"Lucy!" Edmund called out as he ran towards the cell. Lucys head jerked up and she sighed with relief as she saw Edmund. "Edmund!" She said happily as she ran towards the bars. "We've come to get you out of here" Edmund reassured her. He picked up a rough stick and actually managed to pick the lock with it. Lucy immediately hugged him tightly, never wanting to let go. Edmund hugged her back, overjoyed that she was okay and still alive. "I'm never leaving you again..." Edmund said and smiled. "How did you manage to pick the lock with a stick anyway?" Lucy asked and smiled. "It's Narnia. Anything is possible right?" Edmund said and smiled back at her.

"Isn't this nice..." a cold, chilling voice said. Edmund quickly pulled Lucy behind him and aimed his sword in front of him. "I know you're there. Don't be a coward and show yourself!" Edmund called out, wanting to kill the witch more than ever now. "Stay behind me..." he whispered to Lucy, who nodded as she stayed behind him, clutching his shirt.

Jadis suddenly walked out from behind one of the dungeons walls. Edmund assumed she was alone until a dragged out another person with her. Peter.

Lucy gasped at the sight in front of her. Peter had bruises and cuts all over him. He tried his best not to look weak, but it was obvious he felt weak. Edmund felt his blood boil as he saw the white witch force Peter on his knees. "Let...him...go..." Edmund said angrily, as he kept his sword pointed at the witch. "You and I both know I can't do that. You...and only you are going to surrender yourself to me and Miraz." She said, almost as if she knew they would easily surrender. Edmund glared daggers at her. "There is no way on this earth that we will EVER surrender to you" Edmund said, through gritted teeth. "Really? Not even...for your brothers life?" She asked as she made a sharp knife appear. She forced Peters head up by pulling his hair, which caused him to cry slightly in pain. She proceeded to hold the knife to his throat. Peter shut his eyes tight, wishing the pain would just go away. "You surrender...Edmund...and ill let your family go..." Edmunds sword shook slightly as his hands did, deeply considering this option since it meant keeping his family safe. "Ed...don't give in..to her...plea..." he was cut off by a punch in the face. Peter spat out the blood that had formed in this mouth before Jadis forced his head up by his hair again. "Peter...I can't let you die..." Edmund said as he looked down at his brother sympathetically. "Don't...don't do anything stupid....ahhhhh!" Peter suddenly screamed in pain as she dug the knife into his throat slightly, drawing blood. Edmund started to panic more and more. He didn't want to give in to the witch, but he definitely did not want Peter to die. Suddenly Susan ran up next to Jadis and aimed an arrow at her. "You're outnumbered, Jadis" Susan said angrily. "Let go of my brother..." Susan said. It broke her heart to see Peter like that. Peter glanced at Lucy, who was now in tears behind Edmund. "At least Lucy's Okay" he thought. Susan suddenly felt a sword at her back. "Drop your weapon" Miraz said, clearly not afraid to hurt Susan. "Looks like you're more outnumbered than me. There may be 4 of you but I don't think you'll let him die..." Jadis pointed out. " Peter panicked when he saw Miraz with his sword pointed at Susan. The last thing he needed was for anyone else to get hurt. "So..." Jadis said as she turned back to Edmund. "What will it be, son of Adam? Surrender and we'll let your siblings go or he dies..." she said. Peter looked at Edmund with tears going down his face. He desperately wanted his family to be okay and if that meant he died...then so be it.

"I'm sorry Pete..." Edmund said and sighed, knowing that Peter was completely against them surrending. "Fine. I surrender..." Edmund said to Jadis as he lowered his weapon. "Edmund no!" Peter managed to shout but groaned in pain as Jadis painfully kicked him in the stomach. Susan sighed and lowered her bow and arrow. As soon as she did, Miraz grabbed her and dragged her away. Jadis used her power to make the sword Edmunds was holding shatter. Two guards came downstairs.

"Wait...no...you said if I surrender to you...then you would let them go!" Edmund shouted as he pulled Lucy closer behind him. "Split them up. Except the two youngest...keep them together" Jadis ordered the guards. The guards nodded as they stepped towards Edmund and Lucy. Edmund attempted to fight the guards as he dragged Lucy away from Edmund. "No! Lucy!" Edmund said as he struggled against the guard holding him. "You lair! You said you would let them go!" He yelled at Jadis. "Well it was all a trap and you were stupid enough to fall for it" Jadis said with a fake smile. She then grabbed the back of Peters shirt and dragged him away. "PETER!" Edmund yelled and struggled again. How the hell were they going to get out of this one?
