"You aren't under any enchantments," Saimad sits in front of me with his hands steepled under his chin.

I lean forwards towards him. "That's what I told you. But you didn't listen to me!"

"Yes. Yes, true. But Ruby, you must understand. We can't just....trust the elves. You have no idea what they actually want us for!" he replies, wiping the sweat off his brow.

"But....I do! I really do! You....ug!" I get up and stomp out of the room, not caring if it's rude. Why doesn't he understand?

I practically collide with Opal as I storm down the hall. I roll my eyes as she says my name in surprise. She's following me around everywhere now. Sometimes I just wish she'd leave me alone.

"Hey, so I was talking to Greya, and...."

"You were talking to Greya?" I cry. "I thought you didn't like her! I thought that you didn't trust the elves!"

"Yeah, but....I wanted to see if she could, like, convince Saimad to, like, not do that test on you? She....didn't do anything,"

"Still....anyway. What was it you wanted to tell me?"

"Well, Greya told me that you should meet her in her cave. She needs to tell you something," Opal looks nervous about this prospect.

"And she entrusted you to tell me this?" I cry. What is wrong with Greya? It's not like Opal's the most trustworthy person!

"Yeah?" she says.

Without looking back, I rush out of the school, out of the town, up the hill and into Greya's cave.

"Greya! Greya?" I cry as I run into the cave. "What is it? What did you want to tell me? And why on earth did you trust my sister with that information?"

She appears from behind a curtained--off section of her makeshift home. I've never been back there but I'm not greedy and I won't pry. "My goodness, Ruby! You certainly seem to be in a hurry to get here! And you must trust your sister. She is a good girl and she will someday be your only hope,"

I roll my eyes. "Whatever you say, Greya. Now, what is it that you wanted to say to me?"

"My, you certainly are impatient, aren't you? I wanted you to go to the town of Sanlow. I need you to investigate something there, but I can't get there myself. You'll need to take a dragon and I can give you instructions," she sits on a beanbag chair, somehow looking regal even in that position.

"But....what do you want me to investigate?" I ask.

"I want you to investigate the people. I want you to look for one particular person. You will know her when you see her. Believe me,"

I nod and hurry out of the cave. Because now I have a mission to do.
