Her mind was spinning.

She'd been practicing that act for years, waiting for just the right person, but when that person came she had almost lost it.

She had done it, though. She had done it. She kept telling herself that but it didn't seem to stick. She had driven someone crazy.

"Mistress Kali?" a little boy appears at her doorway, his face smudged with dirt. "I was just wundring if you would like some water? I just went to the well,"

She smiles. "Thank you John, but I don't need any water right now. In fact, I'm leaving,"

"Miss?" his eyebrows crease. "Where are you going?"

"I'm going back to my old town. There's a few things I need to do. Now please don't distract me now because I need to pack,"

The boy runs out of the house back to his own and Kali smiles. The people of Sanlow were so easy to manipulate, to charm.

She unchains her dragon from the corner of her house and leads it outside. Swinging herself onto it, she pushes it into the air. People come out of their houses to wave goodbye to her and she waves back as she heads North, towards Kitney.

The town is abandoned.

She had suspected as much but it was still devastating to see all her hard work go to waste.

She walks through her empty house, her steps loud in the empty town. Descending to the basement she sighs with relief as she sees that the machine is still there. The machine that changed her life. She flips the on switch. Then she rubs her hands together. She's going to change the world again.
