Several years ago, in middle school...
"Hey, (y/n), sit with us for lunch!" Your one friend called out to you after your last class before lunch just ended.

You turn around and offered the widest of smiles to the group of friends you gained in your years of middle school. "Of course!" You said as you waited for them to catch up with you.

"I heard they're serving popcorn shrimp today!" (Friend 1) said once they caught up to you.

"But it's a Wednesday, don't they serve pizza on Wednesdays?" (Friend 2) asked.

"Normally yes, but considering it's the first day of school, they're serving popcorn shrimp." (Friend 3) added.

"Well then come on! Let's claim a table before they're all taken!" (Friend 1) happily exclaimed as she/he linked arms with the group and began running towards the cafeteria.

Once the group reached the cafeteria and found a table, you were surprised to see that someone else was already in the lunch room. In the corner of the cafeteria, sat a singular boy at a lunch table. You thought he was waiting for friends, as it was just your group and him in the cafeteria, but as the lunch room quickly began to fill with more and more kids, you realized that nobody has joined his table.

"Hey, guys?" You asked once you turned your head back to be looking at them. "Do you mind if I sit with the new kid for today? I don't think anyone invited him to sit with them."

Your friends stared at you for a few seconds before turning to look at the boy.

"Why don't you invite him over here then?" (Friend 2) curiously questioned.

"Because I think that'll make him nervous, considering he is the new kid." You shrugged.

You were thankful that you had an understanding group of friends, as they knew your nature of being kind, and they found no problem in letting you sit with him for the day.

You smiled and quickly thanked them before grabbing your lunch bag and going to sit with the boy at the corner table.

"Hey! I'm (y/n)! Do you mind if I sit here?"

The boy stopped his chewing and looked up at you with big eyes, like he was actually surprised someone was willingly wanting to sit with him.

"Uh... Y-yeah sure," He stuttered out as he want back to looking at his food.

"Thanks!" You said. "So you're the new student, I'm presuming?"

"Uhm, yeah."

"Cool! Where did you live before here?" You asked as you unpacked your lunch bag.

"...South Korea." He quietly admitted.

"What? No way! That's so amazing! How do things here differentiate from South Korea?" You asked, genuinely curious about his move from South Korea to where you lived.

For the rest of the lunch period, you were happily listening to his stories about South Korea. You found them to be so interesting, and it definitely intrigued you about wanting to go for yourself.
