Chapter 8
“Wakey Wakey Marina. We have a big day in front of us.” Alex shook Marina.
“Go away Max,” she grumbled as she waved her hand uselessly.
“Sorry to say, but it’s Alex. Time for a big day,” he clapped his hands loudly.
Marina sat up almost as quickly as she ran from Darren yesterday. She glared at Alex, upset that he was in her room while she was supposed to be sleeping.
“What are you doing in my room at six in the morning,” she growled as she patted down her wild bed-head.
“We have to start your training so that you will rock the world come time for your filming.”
As she threw a pillow at Alex, she began to fake cry, hiding her head underneath the other pillow. When Alex sighed and pulled back her covers covers, Marina quickly grabbed them back and pulled them over her head, clutching them tight. Alex smacked his head in frustration and tugged the covers away again and then slung Marina over his shoulder.
“Alex, put me down!” she complained.
“Sweetheart, being amazing and perfect does not come from lollygagging around. We have to work, and saying you can’t go on stage without freaking out means we have a lot of work on our hands,” he replied.
“I’ll be nicer if you put me down,” she negotiated.
Alex set her down but still held onto her arm lightly, knowing that she would try to make a run for it. He was right. Marina glared at him as the hope that she could hide from him for the next four hours so she could sleep peacefully, vanished. Of course her idea of a Saturday morning was not waking up early, but sleeping in late; she was a teenager after all.
Barely awake, she let Alex lead her through her house to her living room. However, she was a little crept out that he knew where all the rooms of her house were. That immediately left her mind as she examined the room. Alex had definitely been up early. He had set the room up with a backdrop to one of the scenes for some play or movie, with giant cameras and microphones set up around it. In front of the set stood freakishly realistic cardboard cutout people.
“Alex, what exactly are we doing?” she asked.
“My dear, we are going to pretend that all these people are your audience of assistants, and I have the director, camera-men, and the rest of the crew cutouts to set up. Then, we shall role play through a scene in a movie. All you have to do is pretend the cardboard people are real,” he explained,
For the millionth time that morning, she glared at him.
Alex finished setting up the ‘set’ while Marina sat there and pouted. She wasn’t as angry as she was stubborn. Growing up, she was used to having the last say or at least having it go her way. The reason she and Alex didn’t get along well was because they were too much alike. Alex recognized the fact and embraced it, but Marina kept herself up all night just to convince herself otherwise.
