The Homecoming Dance is next week, and none of us are prepared. Luckily, it's a weekend where we don't have too much homework, so the gang and I took a bus into town to head to the mall. Alice and I knew we wanted to get dresses, but Violet was pretty hesitant about wearing a skirt. Kuzco reassured her that she is in no way obligated to wear a dress to a dance if she doesn't want to. Her parents have government jobs that send them all across the globe, and they're pretty relaxed with Violet's self-expression, so she has no reason to worry about that.

We decided to shop for Kuzco first, since we all agreed he'd take the longest to decide; and we were right. It took Kuzco three stores to decide on his look's central piece: a red vest with a grid pattern on it. He got a button-down on sale in a different store, and ended up buying new shoes later on, too.

"I don't need to buy new pants or anything to go with this," He explained as we walked out, heading to a feminine retailer next, "Which means I can devote all my attention to helping you all look like the queens you are."

Our first stop was picking something for Alice. She knew exactly where she wanted to go. She led us directly to an independent alternative boutique, and had a precise plan of action, walking toward a wall on the right side. She craned her neck up, stood on her toes, and attempted to reach a rack of dresses with... pentagrams cut out under the neckline. It's such an Edgy Alice thing to do.

We're all around the same height, so she didn't bother asking any of us to grab it. She was smart and asked an associate at the store to help her grab one in her size. "I saw on your Instagram that this comes in white; do you have any smalls left in white?" She asked the clerk

The associate looked, and sure enough, Alice got the Edgy Dress of her Dreams. Alice also knew exactly where she wanted to go for shoes: Journey's. She had an associate there help her get a pair of blue Doc Martens with a white floral print on them.

"You're going to wear Docs to homecoming?" Kuzco asked, folding his arms

"There's no rule saying I can't!" Alice proclaimed as she finished tying the laces.

That put Violet and me as the last ones to shop for. Vi wasn't sure where to begin, so we took her to a couple of my favorite stores, hoping we could find something for the both of us at one of them. The first two were duds; nothing really spoke to us. We had some luck in the third store: Violet found some pants, and I got a really cute pair of sandals. We ended up stopping at three more stores before we found what we picked out.

Violet saw a blazer on a mannequin styled with a t-shirt, and she gasped. "That! That's it!"

She made her way inside and bee-lined to the register, the rest of us trailing behind her. There was a sales associate behind the counter with a long, high ponytail and big statement earrings who was folding some clothes. "Excuse me," Violet began, "I'd like to try on that blue blazer in the window—"

Before Violet could finish her sentence, the clerk turned around, and we all instantly recognized her. It was Aurora's roommate, Jasmine. When we realized it was Jasmine who'd be 'helping' us, you could feel the change in the atmosphere. I shot a nervous glance to Alice, thinking is she going to judge us for what we want to try on?

But, when Jasmine realized it was us, she smiled wide. "Oh, hey, guys! Good to see you! Let me come help you with that."
