I never thought I would step foot in Aurora's bedroom, but here we are. Jasmine opened the door for Violet, Kuzco, and me, who were all a little anxious about this conversation we're expecting to have. As promised, Aurora was not present, which made it easier for me to snoop. Don't get me wrong; I didn't plan on physically going through Aurora's belongings or anything like that, but I got a good look at how this girl lives.
Aurora and Jasmine have coordinated their décor to a T. Their beds had the same fluffy blankets in different colors—baby pink for Aurora and a pastel blue for Jasmine—faux fur throw pillows, and sheer canopies hung from the ceiling. The walls had some framed photos—mostly family, and some quotes for 'inspiration', and fairy lights from corner to corner. Each side had its own faux fur rug between the beds and the desks. Beside each bed was a rolling cart with multiple tiers where Jasmine kept books, a water bottle, toiletries, and a contacts case (along with some other various items), and Aurora's looked about the same, but I couldn't quite tell what she kept there from a quick glance. Most notably, the only things in the room that didn't match were the desks. Aurora's desk was incredibly organized. Her laptop was in the direct center, and she surrounded it very neatly with file organizers, supply containers, and a spot specifically for what appeared to be a bullet journal. Jasmine, however, converted her desk into a vanity. The makeup and hair products were just as pristinely organized as Aurora's desk. A place for everything and everything in its place.
"Make yourselves at home," Jasmine beckoned us inside as she sat at the head of her bed
The three of us looked at each other, unsure of what exactly to do. "I know there aren't too many places to sit; I'm sorry about that," Jasmine said, noticing our hesitance, "You can join me up here if you'd like. I don't mind."
Kuzco shrugged and took the initiative, and sat on Jasmine's fuzzy blanket. I, however, opted to pull out Jasmine's vanity chair, and Violet took the chair from Aurora's desk.
It was quiet. It was weird. Jasmine, noting this, took out a small speaker from the cart next to her bed, and started playing some soft pop music. Now it was weird, but with musical accompaniment. "So," Jasmine finally spoke up, "How are rehearsals going?"
I could tell she was just trying to make polite small talk. "They're pretty good," I played along, "We're finishing up blocking on Monday, and then we're going to start detail work this week; right, Vi?"
"Yeah, I'm glad you read my emails," Violet laughed
"How's soccer?" I asked Jasmine, trying to keep up with small talk
"You know," She said, "You win some, you lose some. We're winning more games than losing, though, so that's nice. We could make it to semis or something."
"Oh, cool," I replied with a smile.
More silence. Small talk is hard.
Then, Jasmine broke the silence again. "Any plans for Homecoming?"
Kuzco eagerly told Jasmine about our big group. "Oh, that sounds like fun," Jasmine said. Her gaze was anywhere but us. "I wish I could do something like that."
Violet, Kuzco, and I looked at her, puzzled. "What's stopping you?" I asked
"Well, I mean, I am new, and don't really know anyone besides the soccer team," Jasmine began. It seemed like she was trying to defend herself
"I'd think the soccer team wouldn't mind all going to the dance together," Violet chimed in
"It's too late now," Jasmine said, turning her gaze to her lap, "Like, all of them have dates or something... including me"
