Friends with benefits, no strings attached-that's the plan. And to Serena Huntingdon, it couldn't be more perfect. She'd have all the orgasms she could handle with her hot coworker Kol, and none of the drama.

So young and full of running, all the way to the edge of desire Steady my breathing, silently screaming, "I have to have you now"
I recognized the look on Kol's face immediately. It was the face of someone whose heart was shattering before my very eyes.
"Shit." I pushed off Elijah's lap as quickly as possible, but before I could even get the car door open, Kol had disappeared.
"Here, let me help you," Elijah said, helping me climb out from the passenger side door.
"Shit, shit, shit." I rushed down the hallway towards Kol's apartment as best I could on spiked heels, getting halfway there before I registered Elijah's footsteps behind me. I stopped and spun around, placing a hand on his chest.
"Wait. I think it's best if you go." My heart felt like there was a hummingbird trapped in my chest as panic flared through me.
"I'm not leaving," Elijah said. "Kol and I have a complicated relationship, and you should not have to suffer the consequences of our past." His voice was firm and unwavering, and I knew better than to question him.
"Okay," I nodded before heading back down the hall. "But once he calms down, I need to speak with him alone."
He made a soft, noncommittal sound, but I didn't push it.
I rounded the corner and grabbed the knob of Kol's apartment, which turned easily in my hand. Pushing it open, I searched for him with wide, panicked eyes.
"Kol?"
When he appeared from his bedroom, his face a mask of indifference, I felt a strange sense of foreboding. It was like my body was telling me that this would be an important moment in my life. I inhaled deeply in an attempt to calm the erratic beat of my heart.
"So my own darling brother was your date for the evening. How lovely. Did you kids have a nice time?"
I heard Elijah step forward behind me, placing a hand on my back for support.
"He's taken, you know. He's had a girlfriend for years." Kol cocked his head to the side, a scornful smile twisting his lips. "But I guess that's pretty perfect for you, on account of your commitment issues."
His voice was eerily calm, the fire in his eyes the only sign of his rage.
I rushed toward him to explain, but he took a step back, shaking his head.
"Kol, if you would just—" Elijah began calmly, before Kol cut him off.
"And you. I opened up to you.. I told you how I felt about her."
My mouth dropped open in surprise. How he felt about me?
"Yes, you told me." Elijah's voice was so low and menacing, it chilled me to the bone. "You also told me you had been in a relationship with her for over a year, but that wasn't the case, was it? Just another half-assed attempt to make father think you've matured."
