"You've been going to Manchester a lot lately," so Jisoo says as she watches Jennie packing some of her stuff into her medium-size travel bag.
It is true that she has been going to Manchester a lot lately and this is probably the 5th time she has done so in the span of three weeks yet Jennie chooses to ignore Jisoo's comment because responding to the woman may lead them to a scenario where Jisoo ends up teasing her without her being able to hear the end of it.
"How is Kai?" Out of the blue, Jisoo pops up with a question regarding another neurosurgeon in her life she has completely let slip off of her mind. It has been a while since Jennie is able to accept Kai's invitation to go anywhere and it has been a while since that particular neurosurgeon made an appearance in Jennie's mind either.
"What about him?" Distractedly, Jennie tries to keep the conversation afloat as she chooses whether she should stuff her feldgrau sweater or her gamboge one into her bag.
"It's been a while since you two hang out, hasn't it?"
"I don't keep track, Soo. What's with these sudden questions though?"
"He's calling you," Jisoo eyes Jennie's phone that has been screaming silently displaying the name of the man, "Seriously, who keeps their phone on dead silence," so Jisoo speaks about her protest out loud as Jennie scrambles reaching for her phone when she sees the hitting light coming from her phone screen implying that someone is indeed trying to reach her.
"I do—Hi, Kai. What's up?" Jennie answers Jisoo as she finally manages to snatch her phone and quickly moves to answer the caller.
Jennie falls silent as she hears what the occasion is for Kai to call her again that time. Her attention falls after she hears all there is to hear out from the man on the other line.
"I'm sorry I can't make it tomorrow, I'm going to Manchester," so she replies to the poor lad who has been rejected for the nth time that Jisoo has lost count.
Dr. Kai Kim is probably a man with the worst timing ever.
Jisoo watches one side of the exchange between Jennie and Kai and wonders why Jennie does not just make it clear to Kai that she and he will never be anything more than friends. Jisoo may not know the nature between the two of them but it is crystal clear what Kai is to Jennie, then what Jennie is to Kai and what each of their intentions is towards each other.
Jisoo met Kai when she visited Jennie at the hospital for the third time. He was awkward—polite nonetheless—yet seemed to be a complete stickler; he looked like someone who most likely led a very monotonous life, someone who went to work and went straight back home after his working hours had finished. It was a couple of weeks after their first encounter when Jisoo found out that Kai was Edward's distant relative—to whom she has been betrothed for almost 10 years by then—who had to be dragged all the way by Edward so they all could dine-in together and by they, it was Jennie, Edward, Kai, and Jisoo in one scene enjoying their dinner together.
Jisoo did not know why Edward was so eager to bring Kai along with them that night after asking Jisoo to bring Jennie with them as well, but soon her curiosity was answered as she saw what it was laid between Kai's gaze towards Jennie which she failed to notice a couple of weeks prior due to their mere brief encounter. Kai looked like a lost puppy at the sight of Jennie and Jisoo could see a trail of the bloody garden of flowers blooming beneath his steps when he asked her to hang out with him for the first time and Jennie said yes.
There is this kind of love as well, apparently, when you are fond of someone so terribly that the only world you can see is the one between their gaze, yet you are not even a tiny fish in their ocean.
