Shuichi's POV
The days went by in a blur of barely living. I didn't think. Or speak. Or move. I just laid in bed. Remembering Kaede. Remembering her hair, her smile, her words, filing everything away nearly so I would never forget, even years from now, when we've defeated the mastermind, and I'm alive... maybe. Did it even matter? Why do this? The cycle went on and on in my head.
The door burst open. "Dude, come on! Breakfast." Kaito came in with his usual extraneous energy.
I opened my eyes. "I don't eat breakfast." I rolled over and closed my eyes again.
"That is unacceptable and unhealthy. Besides, you haven't eaten for two days." Kaito argued.
I sat up. "It's been two days? Give me a sec to get ready and I'll be there."
I changed my clothes and made my way to the mirror to do my hair. I quickly combed it through before picking up my hat.
I remembered Kaede then. She told me to have to confidence to ditch it. For once, I would like to not fail her. I threw the hat in the trash before leaving for breakfast.
Everyone beat me to the cafeteria. I walked in and they ask stopped talking and started.
"What?" I asked.
Kokichi broke into a devious grin. "You finally got rid of that emo hat! I'd this because Kaede died or whatever?"
"You little-" I started toward Kokichi. Kaito stopped me.
"Don't waste your time." He said. I relaxed and sat down. Kirumi bright me breakfast, and I realized how hungry I was. I wolfed down three plates before breakfast was over.
Kokichi was the first to leave, and the others soon followed. It was just me, Kirumi, and Korekiyo left.
"Do you need any more food?" Kirumi asked.
"No." I said.
"Is something the matter?" Kirumi must have been able to see into my soul.
"It makes me so mad that nothing changed. After what happened to Rantaro and Kaede you think people would be sad. But they don't care."
"If I may cut in, I would say the opposite." Korekiyo began. "They don't know anything else. You cannot expect people to change. The real problem is that you are drowning in yesterday's woes when you should be thriving in the promise of tomorrow." Korekiyo picked up his plate and left. I followed and went back to my room.
"Are you just going back to wallow some more?" A voice sounded behind me.
Kokichi.
"Leave me alone." He had no idea how much I hated him.
"But my beloved Saihara-chan!" He said
"Beloved? Saihara-chan? Don't ever talk to me again."
He looked like he might actually be sad.
He mumbled . "But I do love you."
I didn't understand him. What he say? "Whatever you just said, don't repeat it because I don't want to hear you. Please just leave me alone."
He turned away from the dormitories and walked. I followed him silently. He didn't notice he seemed to be... crying? They couldn't be right. It must be a lie. But, he didn't know anyone was watching. So it couldn't be a lie. Did that mean Kokichi actually cares about him?
I decided to spend some time with people. I went outside and walked around. Keebo was hanging around near Miu's lab.
"Hey Keebo!" I yelled. He made his way towards me. "You wanna hang out?" I asked.
"Sure. I was glad to see you at breakfast today."
I smiled. "Well I hadn't eaten anything in two days, so I was hungry."
"If it makes you feel better, I haven't eaten in years." He said.
"You can't eat though." I pointed out.
"That's robophobic!" He said.
"But you said it yourself."
Keebo stopped. "You got me there."
We walked around for a while, talking and laughing.
Kokichi's POV
I sat looking over the courtyard. An unfinished sight caught my eye. Shuichi... and Keebo. Shuichi was spending time with that dickless hunk of junk.
It's not fair It's not fair It's not fair It's not fairIt's not fairIt's not fairIt's not fairIt's not fair! He should be spending time with me! What did I ever do! Just tell me Saihara-chan... please.
At least Shuichi is happy. He's gotten better. You could say that he finally pulled himself out of yesterday's woe.
