Childish

Shuichi's POV

Holy crap what happened last night? I thought. It isn't nearly as exciting as it sounds. I mean it is- but not that way. I poked at a piece of toast, not really wanting to eat, but knowing I had to.

"Rise and shine, ursine!" I heard.

Fuck. Not this again.

"We brought you your prize!" One of the colored cubs left. They gave me a few junk of objects before disappearing. "So long, bear well!"

More puzzles to solve. That's just great. Not as if I'm at all tired of running my brain on overtime, overworking it and flexing it to fit where it shouldn't. Why can't I just be a normal kid, who plays video games all day. This may be somewhat like a video game, but it's the most terrifying game I've ever played. Because it's real.

I'm sorry I'm so lazy

Half an hour later, I entered the nearly discovered lab of the Ultimate Anthropologist. The room was cavernous and my footsteps echoed as though I were being followed by an ancient militia. There was a musty smell in the room, a footprint of the many rare artifacts and texts it held. The smell cleared my head and reminded me of summer nights I used to spend in my uncle's office, paging through reports, pointing out this clue and that one, unbeknownst to me that he had already been over and over it all. He never tired of my antics though. I wanted to help, so much. To solve my own mystery. Well, I did. And I never want to again. I thought I would give this up after that first case I solved, and I was even more sure after Kaede, and doubly sure after Kirumi. But here I am, following my own clues, the darkest part of my brain infiltrating the whole thing, persuading me that another murder would take place, and eventually, I would be the victim. I won't win. There's no way. Maybe Kokichi would. Hell, maybe Kaito would. I have no chance.

Korekiyo began analyzing the artifacts, his eyes growing wider as he looked at each rare piece, unbelieving and child-like. "This... should've been lost long ago... I wasn't sure this existed!" He was so full of joy, of hope, it banished my own insecurities for a little bit and I watched a creepy tall guy in a mask run around the room like a child on Christmas morning. I exited the room with a small smile on my face.

The next lab we found was Angie's. Many of the art supplies were foreign to me, but she seemed to know a ton about each one, ready to manipulate them to do her will. She too was childish in her lab, ready to play with her new toys.

"Boo!" Kokichi jumped on my back as I walked down the hallway.

"Dahh!" I screamed and Kokichi bounced off onto the floor. "Don't do that!" I said.

"But my beloved Saihara-chan..." He pouted.

I took a breath. "I just don't want you getting hurt. You're so childish!"

He pouted even deeper. "You're so grown up. That's kinda boring, I won't lie. "

I smiled. "Whatever, shorty."

He got pretty flustered. "I'll be tall someday! You just wait and see." He crossed his arms.

"It's okay." I said. "Short things are cute."

Kokichi stopped. "Huh?" He got really flustered. I could see the panic swirling through his eyes. "I'm not cute..." He followed up with a pout worthy of the pout queen, Maki Harukawa.

I just laughed.

"Hey Shuichi!" Someone came up the hall from behind. "Didja investigate the new rooms?"

"Of course I did, Kaito."

Kokichi got that look in his eyes. "You could always move your lazy ass and investigate for yourself."

I glared at him, but he took no notice.

Kaito began. "Y-"

"Both of you two, shut up." I said, and left. I'm sick and tired of those two bickering. I could hear them blaming each other in the distance. They're just so childish sometimes.
