Mark

I saw a bright light filled the empty space around me. I sat in a void but didn't know where to go. Across from me a faded stood. It seemed immobile for the longest time but suddenly started moving again. It looked a lot like me but wasn't me. I heard a shout echo in the void. Was it Mae? I looked at the monster across from me.

"I hear them...Do they still believe in me? After all the trouble I put them through?"

"No! You know they don't really care!" He hissed.

I heard an echo again except it sounded closer, clearer.

"Mark you've gotta fight it! It's not you, it's the faded! They're in you and you have to fight!" I heard her voice echo.

"Their lying! You know their lying because you're lying to." Its voice changed. "You know how hopeless things really are. You can't save anyone."

"No, please stop..." I said shaking my head.

"You like the darkness, don't you? That's why you like it here, with us. You had no control before, but now you do. You can control everything. Because you're better than them."

"But I don't want that, that's not what this is about. I just wanted to help everyone else. Your lying." I stepped back.

I heard a voice echo once more through the void. Before waking up.

I tried opening my eyes but had to squint in the bright light. Everyone sat around me overjoyed that I opened my eyes, apparently.

"He's alive!" Ace shouted jokingly.

Then I felt it. Holy shit that was a bad headache. I inched my way to a sitting position and looked around. Was I really back? I looked at the people that surrounded me.

"You guys...I'm-I'm so sorry." Was all I could think of saying before my face decided "Fuck it!" and started crying. Ace sat down next to me.

"Don't be, you were just fighting your own head like the rest of us were."

"But I'm supposed to protect all of you. You shouldn't have to deal with me. I can't believe I let it get so out of hand. I didn't even see it coming."

Dustin sat on the floor to join us.

"It's not like you wanted this to happen. It's my fault partly, I yelled at you for no reason."

"No, Dustin it wasn't your fault I..."

Mae sat down with us.

" It's tough watching people get hurt around you and you can't stop it. But it's not like your doing nothing, you've told me yourself. We just have to move forward."

Sydney crouched down and sat on my left.

"Sometimes when you're going through rough times you only see the worst in people."

Madison crouched down.

"It's easy to forget that the world, isn't all that bad."

I chuckled.

"Man you're all so great on your own. You don't even need me, do you?"

"Yeah we got this far, but we wouldn't have done it without you," Mae confessed.

"Anyone could have done the same thing." I wiped the tears from my face.

"Yeah it could have been anyone, but It was you..." Sydney started.

"Don't you know how much that means to us?" Dustin added.

I sighed, giving up on the argument. I stood up and they followed.

"Ok, Ok." I smiled. "Now quite it before you make me cry again." I pulled out my watch.

"Let's get out of here." I opened the portal. "I hate hospitals." I chuckled before walking them through.

When the blue light disappeared the first thing everyone did was flop on the couches. I looked around. The holes and black spots disappeared from the lobby. I smiled. People started blinking into existence.

"Mark!" Jerusalem shouted.

Her friends Dave and Henry followed behind. Other people started crowding around me all talking to me at once. They had questions.

"Hey, guys!" Mae shouted. Everyone looked at her. "Give the dude some space!" She chuckled. Everyone dispersed into their own conversations. I moved over and sat with them on the couches before waking up.
