I stared at the roof. I wanted to go back to sleep but couldn't. climbing out of bed I reached over and pulled out my sketchbook. Throughout the week I made up a bunch of fun characters. I wanted to write a story about them but didn't know how to start. Plus I sucked at writing anyway. I opened my closet and looked for something to wear. For once I was actually gonna leave my room.

While picking through clothes I saw something shine in the corner of my closet. My dad must have left an ax in my room. As to why he went into my closet I had no idea. I picked it up and left it on my dresser before grabbing my backpack a bottle of water. I glanced back at the silver ax. I could give it back to my dad. (I wrapped it in a cloth before shoving it in my backpack. Or) I could take it with me because it looked really freaking cool. While I'm at it, since I'm going to the park I might as well bring my sketchbook and some pencils.

I looked around my room knowing I had forgotten something. I shrugged and left my room behind. I was excited to see the world again.

I took a walk. I didn't really want to but my mom told me to go outside anyway. It was a nice day out though and I could use the exercise. There were a few clouds out today, but what else should I expect from a city like Boston. It was a nice place sure but it was still a city. I didn't want to move here but my mom had to if it meant keeping her job. I'm only seventeen so I'm still not old enough to live on my own. Plus I loved my mom and would move here to see her anyway. I wish I could work for her, give her a break from it all. She always supported me in whatever I did, even when we struggled financially.

I saw a boy turn into the park with a little girl by their side. They both had black hair, but the boy wore a plain red shirt, while the girl wore a grey hoodie. The boy looked familiar, though I didn't know why.

I looked up at the park sign. Boston Commons it said. I was taking a walk anyway so I turned into the park. I felt my phone buzz so I pulled it out. My mom sent a text to me letting me know she had gone to work. I started to text back.

(Ok, have a ni...) I accidentally ran into someone. It was a younger girl. She had short black hair and wore a black flower cap.

"Oh god, I am so sorry."

"It's fine really, I'm just looking for someone." She got up and brushed herself off.

"Ok, sorry," I said before walking away.

Everyone just seemed so familiar today. I must really be weird. I felt bad for the girl, I hope she found whoever she was looking for.

I caught up to the boy who was far ahead of me. The girl started pulling him towards a tree. He smiled. It was at that moment I recognized who he was. Was he always around and I just didn't notice him? He laughed with the little girl who continued to lead him to the tree.

The boy seemed to hear me a mile away and turned my direction in caution. He narrowed his eyes at me. I was sure he would kill me on sight if I wasn't careful. When I reached him he was silent, watching my every move. I prayed that he didn't know how to fight in real life, like in our dreams. He pulled the girl behind him. I should probably say something.

"Um, hey...I know this is gonna sound weird...and I understand if you think it's weird. But is your name Dustin?"

"Yeees?..." He said cautiously.

He looked at me a moment. His facial expression didn't change a hair.

"Ace?" He finally asked. His expression lightened up. "You're real!"

"You never told me you had a...sister?"

"In the middle of fighting it must have slipped my mind." He said sarcastically. I felt someone pull down my hand. I looked down and saw his sister trying to get my attention. She was so happy and bouncy.

"Hello there," I said looking down at his sister.

"Wooah, he towd meh about hue."

Dustin pulled her away.

"Alice, what have I told you about going up to strangers."

"Absowutly noting." She smiled.

He sighed and looked at me.

"Sorry she does that, sometimes."

"But it da truff!" She protested.

"It is not da truff!" He mimicked her.

I laughed. She didn't even know I existed until now, I think.

Suddenly Alice bolted from Dustin and into the field. Dustin ran after her and I followed.

"Alice! What are you doing!" Dustin said as we approached her. She had stopped by a tree and picked up a book. Dustin took it from her and started searching the pages. I don't know why he did but I didn't say anything about it.

He started showing me pages. It was a sketchbook full of drawings. Everything in it was well done. Dustin flipped a page and we froze. The book had a few sketches of us, Sydney, and Madison. This was Mae's sketchbook.

Mark

The sun beamed through the window revealing dust. I got out of bed and looked around. Jane wasn't around. I crawled out of bed and searched the house. I didn't find her until I entered the kitchen. She was setting up two cups of coffee. She looked up worryingly, I hated it when she did that.

"How are you feeling?" She asked.

She picked up a mug that was blue with yellow pears and handed it to me. It was my favorite one.

"Much better actually."

I sipped from the mug. She tilted her head and squinted.

"Are you really feeling better or are you just saying that again?"

I set my mug down.

"I'm really feeling better."

"I couldn't sleep last night. you were talking in your sleep again."

Her face changed to a softer expression but she still stared me down.

"You weren't saying good things, Mark. This is the third night in a row...I wish I could see this 'dream world' that you always telling me about. Maybe I could help you." She looked down.

I had done it for so long that I remembered every detail when I woke up. When I first told her about it she was suspicious but nevertheless she was still there for me. When I started talking in my sleep however she believed me. She believed me, even more, when we accidentally ran into someone I saved, it's a small world.

She would always call me a hero but I wasn't a hero, I just did what was right. She worried about me too much. Like when I got stabbed one time and woke up in an unbearable amount of pain.

I pulled her in for a hug.

"I just want you to be ok." She said softly

"I will be, I promise"

Usually, I never knew how I'd turn out the next day. But today I felt different, dare I say confident. I could do this, but I needed help. I was so grateful to have others around me. But more importantly, I was happy to have myself.

(The End...Thank God...)
