Chapter Nineteen:

Tobin bit her tongue, trying to quickly process what she should say. Her mom seemed okay with queer people but at the same time, it's different when one's own daughter is gay. A few seconds passed before she found her voice, "No, like we said over dinner last night, we just met through a bunch of mutual friends and we hang out so much because most of our other friends are in relationships." Tobin knew she shouldn't have lied but she panicked and by the look on her friends face, she fucked up.

Her mom studied her some more, "Oh okay, I was just wondering. I bet Alex has a nice boyfriend and if she doesn't, she'll definitely find one."

Everyone just awkwardly laughed and half-heartedly agreed. "Tobin, wanna go get something with the concessions with me?" Julie asked with a look that said 'you better fucking come cause we need to talk.'

The two sauntered down the bleachers before Julie slapped her arm, "What the hell, dude? You promised Alex that you would tell her after the game."

"I know, I freaked out. It's fine my mom is going home tomorrow night so it can hold off."

Julie slapped her again, "Idiot, are you gonna lie to Alex and tell her that you told your mom? She's gonna feel like you're ashamed of her."

Tobin knew Julie was right but it had already happened so there was no going back. The two eventually made their way back to bleachers and were met with a weird look from Cindy. Julie was fast to put two and two together, "They were out of what I wanted," referring to why they had no snacks in hand.

The second half started and Tobin watched anxiously as the game continued. Finally, a midfielder got some space before beautifully crossing the ball to Alex in the box. Before Alex could get the shot off, someone came in for a hard tackle from behind sending her crashing down.

"That's a fucking foul!" Tobin screamed fuming at the recklessness. The ref did blow his whistle and point to the spot. Cindy didn't view the outburst as being protective but from Tobin knowing how it feels to have her career ruined by a reckless move.

Carli, as captain, took the penalty beautifully to give the gals the lead. Time seem to slow down as the game neared its end. The crowd was on its feet, cheering as loud as possible. Finally, the whistle sounded closing the game and giving them the win. Kelley smirk grew wide as she spotted Hope high fiving her teammates knowing that tonight was going to be a wild ride.

Cindy left to go back to her hotel to freshen up so the three freshmen waited for their girls to come out of the locker room to congratulate them. Hope came out first and Kelley immediately pounced into her arms, "Good game, babe!" She pulled her keeper into a searing kiss that made the other two friends turn around in disgust.

"Thanks but it would have been better if I didn't have to make all those saves." Hope reasoned knowing that she got lucky with not letting any goals in.

Kelley whispered something inaudible into her ear which automatically wiped away the frustration. "Tobin, is Alex staying with you tonight?"

Tobin groaned knowing what was being implied, "Yes she is." That's all they needed to hear, "Okay, thanks. See you guys later." Kelley called back quickly as they walked away.

"Gross," Julie shuttered before Christen tackled her from behind with a giant hug, "Hey you looked great out there."

Christen sighed and shrugged her shoulders, "I could have been better but we won so I can't be upset with that. Oh, Tobin, Alex is coming out soon. She was looking at by the trainers cause of that ugly tackle but she's fine." Alex was limping a little towards the end of the game and Tobin only hoped that it was something super minor. She didn't know how to break it to Alex that she lied again to her mom about them especially now that she may be potentially injured. The three talked for a little longer before Christen and Julie left to get some food leaving Tobin all alone with her thoughts.
