Chapter 1

-Katniss's POV-

I wake up to my little sister, Prim shaking me. "Hey Kat, Gale called you about a million times." She says and hands me my phone. I thank her as she scurries out of the room. I put on some white jeans, black uggs, a blue button up shirt and add a touch of makeup. I get in my car and drive to school.

I see Gale smoking while leaning on a maple tree. Normally I would have slapped the cigarette out of his hand but now if I do that, let's just say I won't see tomorrow. I head over there and he glares at me. He stubs the cigarette on the tree and twirls it between his fingers.

"Why didn't you answer my texts?" He says while grinding his teeth together. "I-I umm I was asleep." I stutter. All he does is nod and grab my wrist pulling me inside the school. My wrist is turning white and there is tears in my eyes blurring my vision. We past a group of laughing kids. A boy with blonde hair and blue eyes stares at me as a tear rushes down my cheek.

I would wipe it away but I don't care right now. We walk into Mr.Boggs's Class. I sit down and bring my books out. I can't even feel my hand anymore. After classes we head to lunch. I sit with Gale, Delly, her minions, and Madge. Madge is Delly's cousin. She's really nice but is forced to sit their like me.

Half the time Madge and I would speak to each other through sighs and looks. After lunch Gale grabs me and pulls me into the gym, "there's a party tonight, and you are my date ok?" He says more commanding then asking. "I can't I ummm.." I stutter trying to make up an excuse.

He slaps me. Hard. "LIES!" He screams. I whimper and he smirks. "You are going!" He commands and points a finger in my face. I get so mad that I bite his finger. "Someone has been a naughty girl!" He screams and I realized what I just have done. He punches my stomach and I scream out in agony. Someone please help me! I fall to the ground and he kicks my stomach.

I scream out in pain again. He brought us to the 2nd gym which is old and abandoned so no one can save me. "ILL PICK YOU UP AT 8!" He screams and rushes out the door. I pick myself up and tears stream down my face. I limp out. Madge sees me and rushes over. She knows about Gale but she can't do anything. Nobody can. She pulls me towards the bushes so it shields us.

Madge and I are stuck in the group and have to be snotty. So it wouldn't be good if they saw Madge helping me. She unbuttons my top. I'm glad I wear tank tops under my button shirt. She doesn't need to lift my tank up because it's bleeding threw.

We head to the nurse and she bandages me up. Madge and I don't talk that much. We just are best friends from the things we do not the things we say. I continue throughout the school day. As I'm going out I bump into the boy I saw earlier.

"Sorry!" He apologizes.

I just shake my head to show there is no need to apologize. He picks up a book I dropped and I quietly thank him. As I'm turning away he grabs onto my arm. "I'm Peeta Mellark by the way!" He says. I try to smile the brightest I could and I say "Katniss Everdeen." He lets me go and I see Gale at the tree. And if you guessed what he's doing congratulations. Your probably right.

He's smoking. I sigh and head over to him. I hate the smell of smoke. "Who was that?" He asks puffing out smoke. "Who?" I ask. "The boy, blonde hair and blue eyes. Don't play dumb with me." He says eyeing me. "I-I accidentally b-bumped I-into h-him." I stutter once again. I never can talk to Gale without stuttering anymore.

He nods and grabs my wrist tightly. He walks me home and at my doorstep he forcefully kisses me. "I love you." He says. "You too." I reply. I really don't love Gale. I never did, I only liked him.

He grows angry. "This is how you started getting punishments." He says and smacks me. Yeah, why he started abusing me is because he said I love you but I didn't say it back. I knew he wasn't the same after he punched me in the stomach. The door opens and prim is waiting at the door. "I have to go." I say and close the door while Gale leaves.

I run upstairs. I just look at my bed and finally climb in. I sob into my pillow, I just can't take all this pain. I need a hero who can save me. Is all I think before I drift off.
