21. Hospital

Annies pov

I wake up to a text from Asher and two missed calls from the hospital. Oh no... I call the hospital back on the number they left, a doctor answers. "Hi this is Annie Leblanc, you called me twice?"

"Ah Yes Miss Leblanc. Well your boyfriend, Asher was brought in here this morning, he was hit by a drunk driver. He's stable as of right now, but he keeps asking for you. Is there any way you could get here?"

I almost drop my phone. The thought of Asher laying in that hospital bed is terrifying. "Um y-yes."

"Okay Annie. Have a good day."

I hang up the phone and throw on a sweatshirt, putting on my slides as I leave my room, not bothering to turn the lights off. I walk to the office and give them a brief summary of why I need to leave. They call a driver for me, and we go to the hospital. Once I get there I check in and race to Ashers room. I knock twice before coming in, seeing his mom and brother sitting next to his bed. "Can i come in?" I ask his mom. "Of course sweetheart. Asher fell asleep right before you got here."

"Oh okay. How's he doing?"

"Doctors say he's stable. He's going in for X-rays as soon as possible because he's having trouble breathing. They said he's lucky to be alive."

When Ashers mom says this, my eyes start to water. I can't lose him. Not right now. I grab Ashers hand, rubbing my thumb over the back of it. His monitor starts beeping really loudly, and a nurse comes in and starts pushing buttons. His mom asks, "what is that? W-why is it beeping?"

"Oh it's not bad, it's just an alarm to remind us to check his levels again. He's going to need constant care so this will go off about every hour."

"Oh okay."

She checks Ashers temperature, his breathing and a bunch of other things, then she leaves. Asher starts to wake up and immediately notices I'm sitting next to him. He tries to lean over and hug me, but he immediately lays back down, with a look of pain on his face.

"Don't. Okay? We can hug when you get out of this place. God I'm so glad you're awake. I love you."

Asher nods slightly and says, "o-okay"

His mom and brother leaves to get something to eat, so that we get some alone time.

"Don't ever do that to me again! I thought I lost you oh god." I start crying at the thought of Asher dying. Asher puts his hand in mine and says, "but y-you didn't. So that's a plus." I laugh through my tears and roll my eyes. About 15 minutes later the doctors come in to talk to Ashers mom and his x-rays. They take him away, leaving me and his mom alone. We make small talk, until I decide it's probably a good idea to get some food.
