Ashers pov
After talking to Mackenzie about the whole situation, I realized that I wasn't the only one hurt. Annie felt betrayed too. She trusted Mackenzie with all of this and the trust was broken. Even though it would probably hurt to see Annie, I needed to. I needed to make sure she was okay.

I got a day pass.

What does that mean?
Annie🖤-
It means I can be off campus for the whole day as long as I'm back my curfew (9 pm) and I bring this pass back to the office.
Asher💛-
I'm leaving now.

Cool.
About 15 minutes later, I arrived at Annies school. She's sitting on a bench, watching something on her phone. She's wearing white sweatpants and a black hoodie, complete with a messy bun and white crocs. She doesn't look like she's doing okay...
I walk over to her and immediately give her a hug. She doesn't exactly hug back, but she doesn't pull away either. We separate and start walking to the car. Before I didn't mind the silence when we were together. Now it's just awkward.
"Wait Annie stop." Annie stops in her tracks and turns around to face me. "What's wrong?" "This awkwardness between us, I can't do it. What's going on?" Annie looks at me with tired eyes. "Ash please. Just let today be a day where we can both get out of the hell hole lives we've been living. Just let me escape for one day. Can you do that for me?" I can tell Annie is tired of this subject. "Yeah of course let's go." I smile at Annie and she smiles back.
We got to a carnival about 15 minutes away from Annies school. As soon as she sees the Ferris wheel she gets extremely happy. "I didn't even know they had one of these here!!" I laugh. "Well you're in luck, because not only are you at the best carnival in town, you have the best tour guide too" Annie smiles at me and agrees. By the time the car is stopped Annie is already out the door, with me quickly following. I pay for admission and we go in.
After riding every ride in the entire fair, it's finally time for the Ferris wheel, which Annie wanted to ride last. "Asher today as been amazing! Thank you for taking me." Annie genuinely smiles for the first time today, causing me to smile. "Of course. Anything for you." Annie blushes and takes a seat on the cart, making room for me.
Annies pov
Although I love the Ferris wheel, I'm afraid of heights. Normally I'm able to control my anxiety but tonight I can't. When the wheel stops, our cart is at the top... meaning we're farthest away from the ground. I start to hyperventilate, even though I'm trying to control it. Asher looks over at me and immediately notices I'm panicking. "Annie are you okay?" I shake my head no, causing him to pull me into a hug. "It's okay. I'm here. I'm not going to let anything happen to you. Ever." Asher starts rubbing my back to calm me down. Once I'm able to breathe normally again I pull away and look at him. "Thank you. I probably would've panicked myself right off of this thing if it wasn't for you." Asher smiles at me, "Annie I meant what I said. As long as I'm here, I'm never going to let anything happen to you, even if it means i get hurt." I put my head on Asher's shoulder, to avoid looking how high up we are. He wraps his arm around me and sighs, "Man if it weren't for Hayden, you would've been mine by now." I jerk my head up to look at him, laughing, "what did you just say?" Asher starts to laugh, seeing that I'm not upset and repeats himself, "I said... if it weren't for that Hayden kid, you would've been mine now."
I look at Asher and smile, and he smiles back. I notice he starts to lean in, surprising myself, I do too. Our lips touch and fireworks go off, it feels like time stops. He pulls away, "you've never felt that with him before have you?" I shake my head no and look down, "I feel like I'm making the worse decision of my life. But I feel like I'll ruin your career if I choose you." Asher looks shocked, "What? How would you do that? You'd probably make mine better, and with the help from a few of my friends, you'd probably get yourself a career."
"I'd like that."
