Hours old
Alex Jamie Heere born at the University hospital of Red Bank, New Jersey.
After long and painful hours of labor, it was all over for Samantha, her daughter was born and she was beautiful. She was perfect. Paul Heere had chosen the name Alex because it was a unisex name could be a band for a boy or girl. Alex was Samantha's little girl, she was Paul's beautiful baby. The baby was healthy as could ever be.

"Mommy! Look!" Alex cried out, a huge smile on her face as she pointed to pack of 'awesome rad' looking Hot wheels cars. "Can I get those? The- the.. Hot.. Wheels? Please??"
"Darling, those are for boys. Why don't we get you some dolls or dresses instead? We could play dress up!" Samantha insisted, strolling past the boys toy section in the store, over to the girl section. The happy smile on Alex's face quickly disappeared at her mother's disapproval.
"I want the cars! I don't care if it's for boys!" She exclaimed, running back and pointing towards the cars. Paul sighed and looked towards his wife. She glared at him and hissed.
"This is your fault. I'm not buying those for our daughter." She muttered, taking the cart off to go buy some clothes for Alex. Paul walked up to his daughter and smiled.
"Tell me which ones you want." He stated softly, picking up Alex and holding her in front of the Hot Wheels section. The 6 year old laughed and pointed at a few packs.
"Can we get a track for the cars?" She asked, looking over at the set of tracks for the Hot Wheels. Paul took her over to that area, pointing out the good yet cheap ones they could buy. He loved that hid child was exploring different things other than makeup, dolls, and all the girly stuff. He liked that she wants a tree house and go on 'Epic Mountain Hiking Trips' in the woods behind their house.
"I'll get it for you as long as you let me play Cars with you!" He laughed a little, picking out a set that Alex pointed at. "Mommy is going to be mad, but don't let that get to you. You can like whatever you want to like!" He said, booking her nose

"You know what? This is all your fault, Paul! This is your fault our daughter wants to be a boy!! If you never went on those damn 'hikes', bought her jeans, and those stupid video games, she wouldn't be like this!!" Samantha screamed, rage filling her voice as she stepped towards her husband. "All I wanted was a perfect fucking family, but you took that away from me! It's all your fault, asshole!!" She cried, slapping him hard across the face. All his fault. All his fault. Those words kept repeating in Paul's head as he tried to reason with her. There was no point in arguing though, she was leaving.
"Sammy, listen- please.." He said calmly, trying to ignore the stinging pain in his cheek. "Samantha, listen to me! Alex is perfectly normal! You know that no one can have a perfect family even if you try your hardest! It's never going to happen!" He yelled back, tears building up under his eyes. Meanwhile, Alex was trapped in his room, the door locked as he cried. He couldn't breathe properly out of fear and panic. This was the worst fight he has ever encountered between his parents and he hated it. He hated fighting.
"SHUT THE HELL UP!!" She screamed, a harsh glare in her eyes. "Alex is fucked up! She needs therapy! She's messed up!" Samantha argued, storming off to their shared room. "This is all your fault, Paul! If you just didn't let her start to turn, then she'll be fine!" Of course, she was mad, but she didn't understand that a child needs to have freedom. Not everything can be chosen for them. Paul just sighed softly, walking away from her to Alex's room, gently knocking on the door.
"Alex? Hey, can I come in?" He said softly. "I'm not mad, you know? Not at all, I love you. You're my son. Can we talk?" He asked, a small smile on his face. Alex sniffled and walked up to the door, unlocking it and hugging his dad tight. He cried quietly, tears falling from his eyes. He sobbed out, "Why does she hate me..? Am I messed up?" He asked sitting down on his bed.
"No. Of course not, she just doesn't understand you. You're perfect, Alex. Don't worry about her."

"Dude! That's awesome! So you want to go by Jeremy now?" Michael asked in excitement, smiling happily. "Okay so like- What questions are allowed? What can I ask you?" He asked again, sitting directly across from his best friend.
Jeremy laughed in response, "Yeah, Jeremy. I wanna go by that." He replied, covering his face. "Whatever you want to ask, dude. You're my best friend, I won't care!" He stated, leaning against Michael.
"So questions.. when did you know?" He asked curiously, looking into his eyes.
"Oh- uh, I guess when I was real young? My dad has told me about how I would prefer Hot Wheels over dolls." He laughed. "I preferred jeans over dresses, uhm.. yeah, I dunno maybe when I was like.. ten? Eleven?" Michael nodded in response.
"Okay, uh.. why Jeremy? Why that name? No shade or anything!" Another question asked. Jeremy had to think for a moment before answering.
"Um.. well, I guess- okay, here's the story. I had been looking for names before and I had kinda lied to my dad about this family tree school project and I asked for what I would be named if I was a boy. It would've been the same. I learned that my grandpa's name was Jeremy, but I wasn't sure. I looked at some names online, until I just decided to go with it. I like it. Does it fit me?" He answered with a shrug, smiling at his best friend. Many more questions were asked, some causing Jeremy to blow up in laughter. He was so glad his friend was so supportive, quoting that Michael said he would fight anyone if they called him anything different or made fun of him.

First day of High school.. oh no. Jeremy wasn't ready, people could be so judgmental in High school. Jeremy was scared to say, especially with his situation being trans. Sure, his name was changed in the school system, and legally, but people from his past could still know his as Alex. It's scary. Of course, Michael and his dad were by his side the entire time, sure he wasn't on hormones yet, but his hair was short, he was wearing masculine clothes, and he had a few binders to replace the sport bras. The teen cautiously walked through the halls making sure to avoid eye contact. That is until Michael ran up and tackled him, almost taking Jeremy to the ground.
"Jeremy!!" He called, laughing loudly and removing his headphones. He was always excited to see his best friend, like a dog when its owner comes home.. That's not the relationship they had though- stop it.
Pretty much, that's what has happened everyday since then. Michael and Jeremy would stay together and they'd be there own little gang. Just the two of them. Jeremy would get a few transphobic comments, but Michael was always there to.tell them off it was all perfect. Until junior year.
