"The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything."

Keisha's POV

I woke up and stretched. The memories of yesterday made me want to just close my eyes and disappear.

"Good morning K.P." Veron kissed me on the forehead. "Did you sleep well?"

I nodded, not wanting him to smell my morning breath.

"Should I make you breakfast?" He smiled at me when I gave him an eye roll. "Just kidding. But Damion made breakfast and he wants us to eat at the table.....probably he has an announcement?"

An announcement? I felt queasy. I hope he wasn't planning on going through with the idea of Vanessa turning him.

I slowly got out of bed and went into Veron's bathroom to brush my teeth. For a male, his bathroom was extra clean and I found myself wondering if vampires use the bathroom to do anything other than bathing. I mean....they are dead. Aren't they?

I walked hastily toward the kitchen. Damion was a great cook and the aroma coming from the kitchen made me even hungrier. Damion had already started sharing when I got there. Seated around the table were Veron, Kaitlyn, and Vanessa. What was she doing here so early? Has she forgotten that she doesn't live here?

"Good morning everyone!" I said a little bit too chirpy then went to take a seat beside Veron.

Veron held my hand under the table knowing how much I hate being around Vanessa.

"This is delicious Damion. Have you ever thought about being a chef?" Kaitlyn asked.

Damion smiled and held his chest. "Awww....that's so sweet but I'm more of a mechanical engineer type of guy. That's what the ladies like."

Vanessa's head shot up. "Ladies? As in more than one?" She asked.

"I'm just being funny hon." Damion blew her a kiss. "You know my heart only has space for you alone."

"Whatever," Vanessa replied and continued eating.

"Why did you drag me out of bed Damion?" I seemed to be the only one willing to ask the most obvious question.

Damion cleared his throat. "I have an important announcement to make.....after everyone has finished eating." He smiled at me mischievously.

Veron shook his head. "Really? That's not important to us. Only to you."

"Yeah." Kaitlyn inputted. "But thanks for feeding me anyway."

Did he tell everyone before telling me?

"So everyone knows already?" I enquired and they all laughed.

Veron leaned over and whispered in my ear. "We are vampires, babe. We just read his mind."

I need to remember that I live in a house filled with vampires.

"Just tell me then since everyone already knows."

Damion beamed. "OK, I'll tell you but promise you won't get too excited." He drummed on the table dramatically. "I asked Vanessa to move in with me and she agreed."

Seriously? That's the big news? I already hate that Vanessa comes around so often and now I will have to see her every day and night!

"Ok. Calm down. I can see how happy you are about this." Damion said sarcastically.

I smiled. "Welcome to the house, Vanessa. I hope you'll like it here."

She smiled back. "Thanks, Keisha. I hope we will become great friends."

Veron choked on his eggs. "Sorry." He mumbled and Damion rolled his eyes.

We ate for a while, each of us lost in our own thoughts.

I was halfway through eating when I remembered that my mother was living here too. My stomach felt sick. I pushed the plate away from me.

Veron squeezed my hand under the table. "I'm here for you K.P." he whispered and I felt a little better.

Veron cleared his throat. "Everyone I have an announcement."

"Of course you do," Damion grumbled.

Veron ignored Damion and continued speaking. "I asked Keisha to be my girlfriend and she has agreed."

Damion smirked. "I knew you two would end up together."

"Me too." Kaitlyn agreed.

One person at the table, however, did not take the news very well. She slammed her plate on the table smashing it into pieces then walked out of the kitchen.

I guess all hopes of us being friends have now gone through the window.

"Nessa, are you ok?" Damion called after her but she didn't answer.

"What was that all about?" Kaitlyn asked but nobody answered her. The air was filled with intensity.

I got up to leave too. "I'm going to take a shower," I announced. "Thanks for the breakfast, Damion."

"Yea. You're welcome but aren't you going to kiss your lover before you go?"

"Shut up." I threw my fork at him and he dodged it. "I will not allow you to-" my sentence was cut short as Veron dragged me onto his lap and kissed me swiftly, causing us to earn cheers from our friends. I was so surprised I'm sure my face is redder that the carpet on the floor.

I walked away leaving them gossiping about me.

I am Veron's girlfriend. He wants me to be his girlfriend... Not a pretend girlfriend, not a one-night stand but his actual girlfriend. I felt great.

I had a smile on my face as I pushed open my bedroom door. My feet brushed against a piece of paper and I took it up.

It had my mother's signature on it. Did she write me a note? But it didn't make sense and it seemed to have been written hastily.

Don't get egg Worry is he About very Me. I fed Have fry you A one night Plan get too To the table Get too excited Us being funny Out good Of the only Here. I'll tell me Come yes To the news Your lover before Room dream When I was living Get too A one willing Chance. We will become Have fry you To the note Be the only Very well real Careful.
E.P.

I read the note over and over trying to decipher the message. She didn't give me a code or anything to work with. How was I supposed to understand what she was saying?

I pushed the note under my mattress and went to take my morning shower.

I couldn't take my mind off the note. I wish she would have just written what she wanted to say.

Once I reached back to my bedroom I locked the door behind me and took out the note. I read it over again trying to find the hidden message. And then it hit me. I'm supposed to read only the words that begin with a capital letter.
