"You attract what you are, not what you want. So if you want to be great then be great."
Veron's POV
She was seriously leaving. Why did she have to use the bathroom so urgently all of a sudden? Did I make her nervous? I can never understand the female species. I needed some advice. I hope Malik was in his room.
I pushed my hand into my pocket as I strolled toward his room. His door was open. That was a good sign. At least he was home. I really hope he didn't have any female visitors tonight.
I stopped in my tracks as the scene unfolded before my eyes. Malik was drinking blood from Keisha. My Keisha. His filthy lips were attached to her neck.
"What the hell?!" Anger shot from my body and I pounced toward Malik.
He got up quickly with a surprised look on his face and Keisha was somehow flung sideways.
I wasted no time. I grabbed Malik by the throat and slammed him into the wall before he could even blink twice.Anger caused adrenaline to flow through my body like a river. I didn't even know I was this strong. I punched Malik a few times. Lamps were overturned, and picture frames were torn from the wall as Malik retaliated, pinning me on the floor and punching me in the gut.
There was no way I was letting him get away with this. As the image of him sucking on Keisha's neck flashed in my memory, I found the strength to push him off me. He landed against the dresser, breaking the mirror into pieces. I advanced toward him but he acted swiftly, grabbing both my arms and pinning me against the wall.
"I don't want to hurt you son." He huffed. "Let's talk this out like men."
I tried to resist but he was way stronger than me. "Get off me!" I shouted and he slowly let me go.
"Let's talk this out. It's not what you think." He said, not letting his guard down.
"You are drinking directly from my girlfriend. Why?" My voice sounded strained.
"I have to. You and me both. We can only drink nacre blood. Any other blood will make us sick."
Is he lying? He has to be lying. That just sounded really silly.
"I don't believe a damn word you're saying!" I glared angrily at him.
Malik sighed and took up his overturned chair. "You remember when you drank that girl's blood and your belly swelled up?"
I nodded. "Yea. You said it was because she had an STD."
Malik shook his head. "I lied to you then. It wasn't because she was sick. It was because she wasn't a nacre."
"How?" I questioned. "What makes us different from other vampires?"
As Malik was about to answer, Keisha coughed. I didn't even remember that she was in the room.
I turned to look at her. How could she have deceived me like this? Why didn't she tell me that Malik drank from her?
"I'm going for a drive. I don't know when I'll be back....or if I will be back." I turned and walked out of Malik's room. I couldn't stand being in the same room with those two and to think they were on the list of few people I trust.
"Veron wait." Keisha ran out after me, holding onto my hand. I shrugged her hand off of me.
"Wait for what?" I asked. "For you to tell me that you are in a relationship with my uncle? That you are pretending to like me? Or is it that you lied about your parents being killed?"
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she tried to hold onto my hand again. "Veron. I never meant for any of this to happen. I didn't want you to find out like this." He cried openly. "I never meant to hurt you."
I sighed. I hated seeing people cry...mainly because I didn't know how to comfort them. "How long has this been going on Keisha?" I asked almost inaudibly. Deep down inside I wished she would say that this was the first time and that Malik forced her to do it. Then I could probably find a way to forgive her.
"Since the first night, I got here." She whispered, holding her head down.
At that moment I felt as if everything inside me crumbled. I needed fresh air. I needed to be away from her.
I walked away ignoring her pleas for me to let her explain. But what was there to be explained? She lied to me. She deceived me. She and Malik both. They have lost my trust.
As I bounded down the stairs I bumped into Vanessa. "Will you watch where you're going Your Majesty?" She snorted."Get out of my way!" My voice echoed and she stood at one side of the stairs, giving me the way. The frightened look on her face made me feel satisfied. She has a boyfriend that she can trust and what do I have? A girlfriend that allows my uncle to drink from her neck.
I got in my car and backed out of the driveway. For some reason, all I could think about was why Keisha was living with Malik and how she got here in the first place.
