"Telling the truth and making someone cry is better than telling a lie and making someone smile." ~ Paulo Coelho

(Oct. 7) We've all told a lie before. We might have a reason to try and justify it, but a lie is a lie. It doesn't matter how big or small it is, or your intentions. This week, we learned just how powerful a lie could be. And to think... It was mainly because of a locket.

(Song ~ If We're Honest - Francesca Battistelli)

I was backstage in the auditorium, watching the school play, Romeo and Juliet. Lucas played Romeo, Riley played Juliet, Farkle was a spear-carrier, and I had played Juliet's mother. It was the final scene, and "Juliet" was lying on a table in her family's tomb, dead.

Lucas approached her. "Eyes, look your last. Arms, take your last embrace. And, lips, oh, you the doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss." He went to lean down but was interrupted.

"Back off!" Farkle yelled.

"What meanest thou? Spear carrier... who havest no lines."

"You tried to kiss my woman. This I cannot allow. Prepare to die!' I tried not to laugh from backstage.

"Farkle, what are you doing? It's 'Romeo and Juliet.'"

"Well, now it's 'Romeo and Juliet and Farkle.' I play Farkle." I grinned wider.

"Dude, I'm supposed to kiss the girl. Shakespeare said."

"Who thinks the spear-carrier should finally get to kiss Juliet?" He asked. I cheered from backstage, as Maya yelled from in the audience.

"Yeah, you kiss that girl, you crazy spear carrier."

"Hark! You both cometh uppeth here and getteth kissed too." Both? Oh. He was talking about me. The crowd started cheering. I got onto the table next to Riley, as Maya walked up.

"Thank you, thank you. You're too kind, seriously." She lay down on the other side of Riley. "How you doing?"

"I just don't understand how we end up in situations like this." Riley sighed. Honestly, I agree.

Riley, Lucas, Farkle, and I walked down the hall one by one with a crowd cheering. When they got to Farkle though, it died down.

"Thank you. Thank you, Farkle Nation!" I felt bad for him, but he might need some career guidance.

Maya sighed. "Farkle, come here."

"Maya, don't. He thinks he was good." Riley protested.

"Yeah, I'm gonna fix that."

"At least phrase it nicely." I sighed.

Riley shook her head. "But you can't tell him the truth. You'll crush him."

"Oh, I can tell him the truth. It's you who can't tell him the truth because you're afraid."

I nodded in agreement. "Riles it has to be done. We just need to phrase it right."

"It doesn't have to be done, and I'm not afraid. I'm nice."

"You're saying we're not nice?" Thanks, Riles.

"No, I'm afraid to say that."

"Tell him the truth. You know Farkle. You know what will happen if you don't."

Farkle walked over. "Farkle. You were so-- What are the best words?"

"He killed the play. Those are the words. Those are the only words. You killed the play. Tell him."
