I sit on the wet grass, not wanting to go back. Ever. I couldn't go back, because I'd just go back to those painful blows. I look up at the sky and felt salty tears glide down my cheeks. I slowly extended my arm out, letting my hand release its tight grip and let my hand sprawl out. I lift up my index finger motioning it upward creating the dew from the grass to arise. The dew was in mid air, sparkling as the morning sun hit its reflection. I softly close my hand letting the tiny drips of water explode in the air. Small bits of water hit my face as it exploded. I wipe my eyes with the sleeve of my sweater.
I bet you're beyond confused. Well to ease you, I'm Iris Ellington. Currently eighteen and to speak the honest truth. My life at home isn't a cup of tea.
That's me and that I can do something. That something as in being able to move water with my hands. You can say a super power, but I just like to think of it as I'm just different.
Water is my element... Nobody knows, and nobody will never know.
I got up and start my way walking back home, where my mum is going to be waiting for me, and most likely hurt me for being late. So, I take my sweet time. I was going to get beaten anyways. Why not take my time? Smashing my hands into my pockets, I didn't want to make any movement with them. Sometimes when I do anything with my strange power, I get intense nose bleeds that never seem to end, but they do sooner or later. It just takes forever and everything becomes infinity.
Hearing footsteps behind me, I started to feel uneasy. I push a strand of hair behind my ear and cough slightly underneath the foggy air. As the footsteps vanish from behind, I begin to fiddle with the hospital bracelet on my right hand. It's from two nights ago, when mum tripped me onto a shattered vase. It had completely gone into my flesh, causing the broken pieces to rip my skin. It really hurt. My mum told the doctor that I had fallen because of my sister and was being clumsy in the kitchen. Which, was a lie that I willingly went along with. My one and only sister is called Destiny Ellington. She's sweet and doesn't deserve to be in the same situation I'm in. We desperately try to help each other but in the end all we really want is to be alone. It's complicated. After our parents got divorced it became a huge disaster.
Destiny and I really tried our best to fix them, but it still went crashing down. You can only do so much to keep a burning buiding from crashing down.
