“What if I ever lost you?” I asked holding her hand in my little hand.

She smiled, “Remember one thing though; you’re the one who’s going to change the world.” She murmured into my ear. Her old, soft, wrinkling hands held my small delicate ones. My bright blue eyes looked up into her bright blue ones that never faded once. They were always the same in my eyes. Her hands trembled without her knowing, it was in her blood. As the kettle on the table boiled from being heated too much, she stopped her movements and gave me some of the tea in the container, blowing softly into it to make sure I wouldn’t burn my tongue.

The words she whispered to me earlier haunted me for a while, “You’re the one who’s going to change the world.”

As the shadow was near the wall, it crept closer and closer.

“I can see your shadow!” I shouted out nervously.

No response.

“Okay, gig is up! Who’s there?” I echoed through the empty house.

The shadow was just a shadow, and my eyes couldn’t believe what was occurring right in front of me. I reached my hand out to the black shadow that was still and just an arm reach away. I quickly snapped my hand back when I felt the stinging feeling of the shadow.

“Okay…” I mumbled out, eyeing the shadow suspiciously.

As I looked more at it, it started to shape itself into an old childhood friend.

I locked my eyes of what was now appearing like Molly. She was my only friend, until my mum forced me not to speak to her ever again. As I saw what it was, my tension loosened until the thing threw something sparky as in electricity. I screamed and threw the boiling water on the floor at it. Which the shadow shriveled up.

“What the hell!” I shouted, running out onto the lawn in the backyard.

That’s when I saw the reflection of my Grandma, her old face in the sunlight.

“Gran?” I called out and she nodded in easement.

“Iris, there’s things I’ve never told you. Shadows are evil little demons, who hide behind people, some actually come and harm the people that aren’t natural, the ones that are unnatural. Shadows and Crows, those are the ones you shall watch out for, they are going to destroy you and your friends and family if you don’t give up, but you have the government as well after you. I advise you to leave and tell the people you don’t want to get hurt, bye and forget you, do it so harsh they never want to even know your name, understand baby?”

The pain in me was becoming hard to ignore.

“Gran, I don’t want to hurt them.. What about Destiny?”

“You’ll see.” She slowly said and then everything that I saw of her disappeared.
