Shane sat in her room, reading the online account of the incident the previous night.
Another family gone. Gone just like mine. Everyone around them is now in pain because of what happened and no one can tell them why. No one can give them closure. No one can-
A knock on the door interupted her thoughts. "Shane? It's Mrs. Kendric. Can I come in?"
"Go away."
A sigh echoed through the wood. "Shane, please I-"
"Go away!"
"You need to listen to me, Shane. I-"
"I said go away, ok!? I want to be alone!" Shane hated the manditory check ins that Mrs. Kendric did. She had to make sure that Shane was safe and that she felt safe. Every. Single. Week. Shane's answers were always the same. Why did she even bother to ask anymore?
She got up from her desk and walked to the phone she'd bought a few months ago. She had a job at the local diner. Weekends and late nights, but nothing that often. Mrs. Kendric wouldn't allow it.
She flipped up the top of it and looked at the screen. After punching in the number and hitting call, she heard a familiar male voice pick up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Say I did want to talk to you guys, hypothetically. Would you be able to meet me a Dalton park in an hour?"
There was a pause. "Yeah. We'll be there."
Shane hung up the phone and grabbed her back pack. She leaned down to look under her bed and pulled out three old sketch pads and stuffed them in her bag. She opened her window and started climbing down the trellis outside her window.
She reached the ground and started for Dalton Park.
-----
"Why the hell does she want to talk to us all the sudden? I mean, what changed?" Dean asked.
"I'm guessing it has something to do with the Gregorys. I mean, this is a lot like what happened to her family."
Dean and Sam pulled into Dalton Park. It was a large forest-trimmed field. There was a small swing set with a few benches in front of it. Sitting on one of the swings was Shane.
They got out of the car and walked toward the bench situated in front of the girl's immobile swing.
"HI Shane," Sam smiled, sitting down across from the girl. She looked terrified. She was clutching her back pack straps, staring at the ground.
"We have to make this somewhat quick. Mrs. Kendric doesn't know I left."
"You ran out," Dean questioned sitting beside his brother, "Why?"
"Because I heard about the Gregorys," Shane looked down, "And I think the same thing is what made my dad kill my family."
"You don't believe it's just people going insane, do you?" the older brother asked again.
"I know it wasn't. I saw... it." Shane looked up, "I know it wasn't what everyone's saying it is. I know it! I knew it back then too!" Shane rose her voice slightly, then dropped it back down. "I just don't know what it really is."
"What happened, Shane?" Sam asked.
Shane looked at the ground. "The day it happened, I saw this... thing. I saw this black fog thing. It was moving like it was alive. Like, it was more than a fog. I don't know what it was, but it scared the shit out of me."
Dean and Sam looked at each other.
"We were playing a game that night, my mom, brother, dad, and I. My dad got up to grab us some snacks and sodas. When he came back... his eyes... they were black. Only for a second. Then they looked normal again.
"Before he attacked my mom, his eyes went black again. When it happened, my brother carried me up the stairs and locked me in a bedroom closet. He slid the key under the door so I could have the police let me out. Then... my dad came in and killed my brother. H-he looked at me when he was done. He looked right into my eyes and slit his wrists. He watched me the whole time. The worst part was the fact that I told them. I told them what I saw-"
"But no one believed you did they?" Sam questioned, leaning forward slightly.
"No. They didn't."
"Shane we know what killed your family." Dean scowled.
Shane looked nervous. "What?"
"A demon."
