"If Amy can do it, I can do it..." Jenna muttered to herself as she entered the library. Amy had successfully gotten Rory's number and the two of them would be spending Valentine's Day together. Jenna needed to ask Matt out by the end of the day, and hope that he would want to spend Valentine's Day with her. She also had to make sure that he passed his classes so that she wouldn't have to do her community service, which was a graduation requirement. If all went as planned she get into prom for free, still have enough money for her trip to New York and she wouldn't have to worry about community service.
She found a table in the back next to a window. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the sun shone in through the window. Spring was upon them as flowers began to bloom in the garden outside the school. She peered out the window and saw all the sports teams practicing, they were running laps around the field together, and many of the players appeared to be out of breath.
She snapped her head in the direction of the door when she heard it open. Matt Smith walked in. He didn't have a backpack, a pencil or anything he needed. Jenna rolled her eyes but she didn't expect anything less, this was Matt Smith, not the valedictorian of the school.
"Hi." He said. He seemed a little more confident than the day before.
"Hi!" She replied. She tried to sound as sweet as possible. Her goal was to ask him out by the end of the session.
He smiled at her and she smiled back, she thought she was going to have to force it but her smile actually felt genuine. She thought she was going to hate being in his presence but something about today felt different, she was actually looking forward to helping him out.
"Okay, so today we're going to focus on Shakespeare and the different themes that can be found in Romeo and Juliet. So if you open the book to page six you'll see this line which foreshadows that that a big theme within the play is love..."
Matt nodded his head and followed along with everything Jenna said. He took notes while she spoke and every time she asked him a question he answered it correctly. Before they knew it the session was over and Jenna had to head to work.
"Great job today Matt. Same time again tomorrow?"
"Sounds good. Thank you so much for all your help, I really feel like I'm catching on.
Jenna smiled. Matt really seemed to be absorbing everything he learned from the session which made Jenna want to help him out as best she could.
"Hey Matt?"
"Yeah?"
"Listen, Valentine's Day is coming up... and um... I was wondering if maybe you'd like to go to the movies with me? Or maybe grab dinner?"
He paused for a second and took a good look at her. He was surprised that the girl who seemed to hate his guts the day before was asking him out on a date. Nonetheless, he obliged.
"Yeah, I'd love to."
