"But, I don't have time to do this, I really don't... I need to focus on studying for my finals..."

"Miss Coleman, please, this student really needs to be tutored, and besides you have the highest grades in your class, maybe your intelligence will rub off on him a bit."

Jenna bit her lip and got lost in her thoughts as she tried to think of a way that could she make time for tutoring and studying.

"If he gets at least a B on all his exams, you'll be exempt from doing community service." Mr. Capaldi added.

"Alright, I'll do it..." Jenna said reluctantly.

"I knew I could count on you Miss Coleman... Thank you." He said as he handed her the materials she would need to tutor her classmate.

She stuffed the books and worksheets in bag and headed down the hallway.

"Hey, where are you going?" Amy yelled after her.

Ever since the seventh grade Amy Pond and Jenna had been best friends. The studied together, hung out every weekend, and even worked at the same place.

"I have to go and prepare for my tutoring session tomorrow." Jenna yelled angrily.

"Whoa, calm down... No need to get your panties in a bunch... Who're you tutoring?"

"Matt... Matt Smith..." Jenna muttered.

"Isn't that the guy who's in your English class?"

"Yup."

"He's kind of cute." Amy said and wiggled her eyebrows.

Jenna glared at her friend. "No, he's not, he's a loser who doesn't take school seriously so now I have to waste my time making sure he passes his exams." Jenna snapped.

"Calm down, it'll be fun! Maybe you two will fall in love or something!" Amy said trying to cheer her best friend up.

"I don't really even know him and I hate him already..." Jenna stormed out of the school and headed to her car, her best friend following right behind her.

"Honey, it'll be fine. You always excel in school and it would be nice of you to help someone out who struggles to understand and retain information." Jenna's mom said to her.

"But mom, you don't understand... He doesn't even try..." Jenna slumped in her seat at they kitchen table while her mom made dinner.

"You don't know this boy, the only thing you know is his name, it's not fair to judge a book by its cover, and besides you have two months to get all of this done, you'll be fine.

Jenna stuck out her tongue at her mom while she had her backed turned.

"Just call me down when dinner is ready." Jenna said as she headed upstairs to her room. She was annoyed with the way things were going and needed to be alone for a bit.

She threw her backpack into the corner of her room and flopped on her bed.

Maybe I'm being a bit childish, it couldn't hurt to just give things a chance... She thought to herself. Suddenly her phone began to vibrate.

Hey cranky pants! Amy texted her.

Hey Pond, what's up? Jenna texted back.

You know how you have to tutor that Matt Smith kid? Well I got his number for you, that way you could text him before you guys actually have to study together. It might make things less awkward to get to know him first....

HAH. There's no way in hell that I'm talking to that boy more than I have to, besides won't he wonder how I got his number? Jenna replied.

I don't know... Maybe... But I still think you should try to get to know him on a personal level outside of tutoring.

She's staring to sound like my mouther...

I'll talk to you tomorrow, okay? I think my mom is almost done making dinner.

Alright, see you tomorrow Jen! :)

Maybe they were right... Maybe she needed to understand the guy before she judged him...

"Dinners ready!"

Jenna broke free from her thoughts and ran downstairs to fill up her empty stomach.
