It's 6:30 am. My alarm goes off. Sighing, I sit and yawn.
"Why does school have to start so-" I'm cut off by a yawn. "Early?". I get changed into my normal wear, a hoodie and black pants, and head down stairs. No one is there. I look at the fridge. There's a note.  It reads.
"Bye sweetie, see later this week.-Mom" I sigh.
"Mom already left. I thought her trip wasn't until a couple weeks. Great. At least I have you Dad, right?"  I shout the last part up at the part of the house where my parents' room is. 'That's weird...Dad usually answers even if he was asleep. "Dad?" Then, something catches my eye. I look to my right towards the counter and find another note. This time it reads.
"Sorry sweetie, I'll have to leave at 5:00 a.m. and I'll get home at 1:00 a.m. for the rest of this week. I'll try to figure something out. If I catch you awake when I get home you're going to be in trouble. I hope not to see you when I get home. Sleep well sweetie. -Dad".
"You have got to kidding me!" I yell at the air. I can't believe this. "At least things can't be worse." The door bell then goes off. "Come on?!" I open the door prepared to answer someone who is selling something that the world really doesn't need, but I find no one there. I look down to find a really beaten up package. "Great another weird thing for Dad I guess." I pick it up and take it inside. I look at who it is addresses to. 'To: Max From: Rain' "Wait... Max? As in Grandpa? Weird, I don't remember anyone named Rain that he talked about." Before I can open it however, I look at the time. 7:20. I mentally scream and run up stairs to grab my backpack. I throw the package on my bed knowing that I'll be able to open it after school and grab my black sack. I run out the door locking it at the same time. I dash down the street hoping to make it on time, though I don't care. I see Ms. Johnson, an old retired woman who worked with my grandpa. "Hi Ms. Johnson!" I say running closer to her house.

"Hmm?" She says looking up from her garden. "Oh! Hello Sarah. You're late again." She chuckles lightly. I stop out of breath right in front of her yard.

"Yep. Sure am." I look over at her. Something catches my eye this time though. She's wearing a silver necklace with a purple gem on it. "Hey. Have you always worn that?" I point to the gem.

"Oh, yes dear I've worn this since I was a young woman working next to your grandfather. Max was such a sweet young man at the time, but don't let me keep you here! Get now! Off to school you go!" She said with a smile and shooed me off. I smile back and nod. I start running towards school again. I turn to face Ms. Johnson to say goodbye...,but I saw a young woman waving me away. She looks like a younger version of Ms. Johnson. I shake my head and see regular Ms. Johnson waving me away. I wave back. I turn my focus on the trail that I'm taking.

"What is going on today?"
